This is Cass x Lunn. They are two of the crew from Series Nine's Under The Lake/Before The Flood (the one with the ghosts underwater). She's deaf and he translates for her with sign language. This one shot takes place after the episode's finished and Clara leaves with the Doctor. The crew is on a transport that is taking them back to the surface. (I'm pretty sure the Doctor just left them there and didn't drop them off on the surface, but correct me if I'm wrong). The video is from the end of the episode when they (FINALLY) kiss. (Seriously, I was shipping them from like, the first scene!) Anyway, I'll stop rambling and let you get on with the story!
Lunn lay, staring up through the dark, at the metal ceiling that seemed to press down on him. He should be used to it by now, after all that time living underwater. But after those long, sleepless nights trapped in the Faraday Cage, fearing the ghosts that lurked outside... Well, enclosure now held a certain fear that it had not previously possessed.
He shivered slightly as he recalled the ghosts. They were enough to scare anyone half to death. The fellow crewmates turned into strange creatures with tar black pits instead of eyes, hunting down and trying to kill their former friends.
Sighing, Lunn swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood. He'd never sleep with those memories haunting his mind.
Leaving the room, he began to pace the halls of the sub, trying to keep his mind occupied with thoughts of the surface that lay above them.
A muffled scream caused him to stiffen. He stopped and listened. It came again. It seemed to come from the direction of the room Cass slept in.
Trying to push down the fears that immediately plagued him, Lunn ran in the direction the cries had come from. Another scream echoed off the walls, and this time he could tell for certain. It was Cass.
He shoved the door open. She lay on her bed, limbs thrashing, her breathing harsh and irregular. Liquid coated her face in a mask of tears and sweat, and fear and panic were etched into every line.
He was by her side in a second, running one hand over her forehead, slipping his other arm gently around her. At his touch she calmed down slightly, opening her eyes. Seeing him, she began to sob, sitting up and burying her face in his shoulder.
Running his hand over her hair, he pressed a kiss to the side of her head. Part of him told him to try to soothe her with comforting words, but another, larger, part reminded him she couldn't hear him and if she felt his mouth forming them she would pull back from him to try to understand. And so he merely pulled her onto his lap and continued stroking her hair and back, trying to ease the shaking that wracked her body.
She began to sign, trying desperately to calm her harsh breathing and bring herself under control. 'I had a dream. I'm sorry.'
He grabbed her hands before she could get any further and placed them back on her lap. 'Don't be.' He signed back, 'Just stay still for now. You'll be okay. I've got you.'
Sighing, Cass lay her head against Lunn's chest. He ran his hands soothingly over her back and arms, and she leaned into him more.
After a few seconds she began to sign again, 'I dreamt we were back in the base. You had gone to retrieve the phone, had been caught and were dying. And-' her fingers fell still for a moment, more tears streaking down her face 'And Oswin,' (Lunn hesitated for a moment before realizing he had interpreted wrong. She meant 'Clara') 'was holding me back, and laughing while we watched you die.' Her trembling intensified.
'Clara isn't cruel. She would never do that.'
'She tried to stop me from going after you.'
'She was trying to keep you safe. As far as we knew they wouldn't hurt me.'
'I was still afraid. Afraid you'd die like the rest of them. Our friends.' She lowered her hands and clutched him tightly.
He kissed her forehead, 'We're safe now. The Doctor saved us. And I'm not going to let anything like that ever happen to you again. Because I love you.'
'I love you too.' Closing her eyes she slowly drifted back into the comforting land of sleep, cradled in the lap of the man she loved.
As she drifted off she vaguely registered his hands moving again, but was too gone to decipher their meaning.
A/N: Sorry, I know this plotline is SUPER cliché but I was totally stumped for ideas. Please vote and comment!! Ideas are welcome!!
