Disappointing Discoveries

I step out of my tent, into the burning sand of the desert. Not my dream vacation, but when one is an archeologist one doesn't always get the choicest of living quarters.

Professor River Song. On Earth for once. Thought I may as well visit the home of my parents. Not very eventful so far, but relatively easy work and will hopefully pay soon in adventure.

We're excavating the rumoured site of Queen Sheba's tomb. The crew is small, mostly guides. Their leader was reluctant to let me join but I charmed my way in. How could I pass up the chance to tomb hunt with the famed Indiana Jones?

There he is now. With the men who are doing the excavation now. I come over beside him and he looks over at me.

"Professor Song. Good morning. They have finished most of the excavations. The door has been uncovered. I'm going in."

"I'm coming with you."

He raised an eyebrow. Doubting. "Think you can handle it?"

"Can I?" I smile. "Oh Professor Jones, as I said the day we first me, 'You have no idea who you're dealing with.'"

He raises an eyebrow. "Alright then. You can come. But stay by my side at all times."

"Make me."

He flashes me a smirk. "Maybe I will."

Without further words, we descend into the pit.

It's dark except the faint glow of the torch that Professor Jones holds. We are wary, knowing we could spring a trap at any moment.

The passages are stone, and freezing compared to the blazing heat outside. I rub my arms slightly, and he notices.

"Cold?"

"No. I just have a nervous twitch that causes me to run my hands up and down my arms."

He smirks. "Mmm."

After another while of relatively quiet walking, we come to the edge of a deep pit, as if the floor had caved it. He looks up, towards the ceiling.

"I can get us across." He holds out an arm to me, inviting.

I shake my head. "You go across. I'll handle myself."

Jones looks at me doubtfully. "If you say so." He swings himself across using his whip and lands safely on the other side.

Smiling, I type in the coordinates of the far side into my Vortex Manipulator. Pressing the final button, I teleport into the shadow.

When I step out, Jones jumps.

"How in the world did you do that?"

I smirk. "A woman must have her secrets."

Looking at me suspiciously, he starts into the next tunnel.

We walk for several minutes without incident. Emerging into a huge chamber, we freeze. There are possessions thrown all over the room. Baskets, a headrest, remains of simple cloths. Nothing fancy.

"I have a sneaking suspicious that this isn't Queen Sheba's grave." I say.

"You might be right." Jones deflates. "Well, I suppose we'll have to look for it somewhere else."
