"So who else lives down there?" Jesy asked curiously one night. She wanted to know who the people who were constantly trying to steal Leigh-Anne away from her were.
"Hmm . . . Well you already met Ray Ray and Princeton. Besides them there's Perrie, Roc Royal, Prodigy and Jade." Leigh-Anne listed.
"Are they nice?" Jesy asked.
"Well Perrie is very sweet . . . Jade can be difficult at times . . . And well Prod and Roc get grumpy from time to time. But they are all lovely."
"Hmm . . . What about Princeton and Ray Ray?" Jesy asked.
"They're nice too . . . Ray gets grumpy sometimes as well. Princeton is always very sweet to me though. He's a good friend I'd say." Leigh-Anne smiled.
I bet she likes him more than she likes you. Ha ha ha hahahaha. The man in Jesy's head said.
Jesy flinched. The voices were doing that a lot; butting into her conversations with Leigh-Anne. Gone were those early days when they stayed quiet when she was around.
"What's wrong Jesy?" Leigh asked, concerned. "You're always doing that . . . it's like you twitch a lot."
Ha Ha Ha. She's gonna find out that you're crazy and sick. The man snickered.
She'll hate you for sure when she finds out. The woman chimed in.
Jesy twitched again. "Uh . . . It's nothing . . . a bug just bit me is all."
"There are bugs in here?" Leigh-Anne asked. She hated flying insects. She started looking around.
Jesy thought she looked a bit scared and didn't want her to be worried about it. "No there aren't any." She sighed. "I think it was just my imagination."
She's imagining insects biting her now? She's insane. The woman joked.
You're pathetic. You know that right? Always trying to make her laugh and feel good . . . it's a waste of your time. She's just gonna leave you later. You are a horrible thing. You disgust her and you disgust us. What we'd give to get out of your stupid little head. It's a wonder you have a brain for us to sit on. The man said sounding bored.
Those words hurt Jesy more than they should have. She felt tears welling up in her eyes.
"Jesy what's wrong? Why are you crying?" Leigh-Anne asked concerned. Jesy always seemed so sad and she didn't like it. Even if she got her laughing the brown haired girl would always start looking down after a bit.
"Um . . . I got something in my eye." Jesy rubbed at her eyes but one of her tears escaped.
Leigh-Anne's fingers were on her face before she knew it, wiping away the escaped tear. "I don't understand why you're always so sad." Leigh-Anne said softly. "What's hurting you Jesy?"
Jesy wanted to tell Leigh-Anne everything that ever went wrong in her life but she was terrified it would make her lose Leigh-Anne. This girl right here was the one person who ever came close to actually loving her and Jesy didn't want to mess it up. "I um . . . I . . . uh . . ." Jesy stammered.
"Jesy I want to help you." Leigh-Anne said cupping Jesy's cheeks in her hands. She was desperate to make Jesy smile. She didn't know why but Jesy was the one thing that made her feel like things weren't so bad and she didn't want her being sad. The way Jesy looked at her reminded her of her parents and her sisters but without the bitter feeling of knowing they'd never be back. It almost didn't make sense.
"If I told you then you'd just go away." Jesy said softly. Along with those words came all the tears that Jesy had been trying to hold back. She wasn't sobbing . . . the tears were just flowing and somehow that seemed even more heartbreaking to Leigh-Anne.
