"What??" Bryn hissed. She should have known Lias would rat on her. Next time she sees him, she's going to give him a piece of her mind.
"Why didn't you tell us You were talking to Chris? You could have told us and we would have dealt with him for hurting you." Now Bryn was very confused. When did she-oh. She faintly remembered Chris approaching her at her locker this morning. He must have told them something.
"What did he say?" She crossed her arms and waited for them to respond.
"He said you've been stalking him and trying to get him to talk to you all week. Bryn this isn't like you. You never even tolerated Chris. Why are you trying to get his attention now?" Jase shook his head at her.
"That's not true! I never have liked Chris and I never will. I promise you I don't and didn't talk to him."
"Then who are you talking to?" Bryn's mother asked her concerned.
"I-I can't tell you." They all looked at her with wide eyes. "It hurts me to say that to you, but I can't. But I promise we aren't talking anymore so you don't have to worry about anything. Please just drop it. I'm fine." She made her way to her room before they could say anything else to her. She couldn't believe that her family would think that she was talking to Chris of all people. The sad thing is that if they found out about Lias, their reaction would be much worse. That's why she has to keep him a secret.
That night, around 11, she heard a knock at her window. She looked out and almost jumped out of her skin. She held her hand over her heart and let out a long sigh. "Oh my god Lias. You scared the crap out of me." He smiled at her through the window. "What are you doing here?" He looked around as she opened the window.
"I had to see you. I wanted to talk to you today, but I didn't think you would want me to in front of your whole school plus your brothers." Bryn snarled.
"I want you to. I want you to be proud to talk to me. That's why I said we can't have anything between us, because you refuse to." She was about to close him out, but he put his hand on hers.
"Just listen. I want to change. I'm willing to change for you. Just give me some time. I can't take on three huge football players by myself. I need a strategy." Bryn rolled her eyes at his football remark. She couldn't help the small smile that formed on her face.
"I just don't know. I need time to think." Lias' face dropped. He nodded slowly and was just about to leave when she stopped. "That doesn't mean you have to leave right now. You could stay a little if you wanted to." He smiled and plopped down on her bed.
They talked for hours that night until Bryn could barely hold her eyes open. She faintly heard voices coming towards her room, and her heart jumped. "My brothers! You have to go. If they see you here right now they are going to go crazy." Lias nodded and jumped out the window just as her door opened.
"What are you doing at your window this late?" Jax asked as James nodded beside him, and Jase was examining her room.
"I was just looking outside. That's it." She closed her window and moved towards her bed. She hoped they didn't look out and see Lias leaving on his motorcycle. With her luck, James went over and looked over their yard.
"Stupid people riding their bikes this late at night. They could be killed." He scoffed and closed her blinds. Bryn's heart jumped when he said that. She didn't want Lias dead.
"We just wanted to come in and apologize for earlier. We shouldn't have jumped to conclusions." Jase said and rubbed the back of his neck. That gesture reminded her of Lias when he had her meet him after the football game Friday.
"It's fine. I understand you are just looking out for me, but you need to know that I'm not a little girl anymore. I'm a junior, I'm not in elementary school anymore." All three of them nodded.
"We know." Jax started. "We just want to keep you safe. You're still our baby sister." She rolled her eyes with a smile.
"Yeah yeah." They all laughed then exchanged goodbyes. The boys left and Bryn let out a sigh. That was a close one. If she hadn't heard them coming, they would have come in and found Lias sprawled out on her bed. That would have given them a heart attack.
Every night after that consisted of Lias sneaking in for an hour or two, then leaving for school. This happened for about three weeks. Tonight was once again a football game her brothers were making her go to, but this time it was at Lias' school. Great.
Bryn rode with Natalie to the game, and they sat in the front row on the bleachers so they could see better. At the end of the first half, they were tied 35 to 35. This had both teams going crazy. The half time show always calmed them down as they watched it from the bench as their coach lectured them. The only problem is, today there was no show. Instead, the home team made their way to the field and handed Lias a microphone.
"Would Bryn Williams please come out on the field?" All eyes landed on her as she slowly stood up and walked out to him.
"What are you doing?" She whispered.
"Showing you that you mean something to me and that I'm not afraid to show it to anyone."
