Bryn stood at the bench with her hands over her mouth as she watched the coaches try and get Lias to stay conscious. She couldn't believe Jax would tackle him like that. After he did, he came back over to their side and high-fived many people in their crowd. When he saw Bryn's expression of hate, he just shrugged his shoulders.
"That's the point of football sis." He said snobbishly. She just scoffed and turned the other way. She knew her brother was an asshole, but she couldn't believe he could go this far.
Lias' head felt like it was spinning. At this point, he could't really hear anything.
"We need to get him to the hospital fast." The coach told the ER. They nodded and grabbed the stretcher from the vehicle. All four of them tried to pick him up, but he was too heavy with all his football padding. James ran over and helped them put him on the stretcher.
"James, what are you doing?" Jase yelled across the field.
"I'm being mature." He snapped back.
Lias was grateful. He tried to lift his head, but James pushed it back down.
"I-I need Bryn." Lias mumbled. James didn't understand what he said.
"What?" He asked and leaned closer.
"I need you to go get Bryn." At first he was hesitant, but Lias grabbed his arm. "Please." He asked sincerely and James nodded.
"Bryn!" He shouted as he ran towards her. She gave him a confused look. "You need to go with him." She went to reject, but James gave her a serious look which made her nod and sprint towards Lias.
When she got by his side, she could see his eyes drooping. The only thing she could think about doing is grabbing his hand and squeezing it to prove to her that he is still there. "Lias?" His head turned to her.
"Hey." He gave her a small smile. She could feel tears forming in her eyes. The paramedics were rushing around to get him into the ambulance.
"We need to keep him conscious! Hurry people!" They were lifting him up into the vehicle, and Bryn panicked.
"I'm sorry miss, but you will just be in the way. We need to do everything we can to keep him stable." She just nodded. James came up behind her and hugged her. Everyone remained silent. No one dared to say a word. Both coaches were talking quietly to decide what they were going to do. They knew they had to keep playing the game, but they knew that James was going to go with Bryn to the hospital, and the other team lost Lias, so without their two starter quarterbacks missing, the game might as well be over.
Bryn could care less what they chose to do. The only thing she could think about was getting to the hospital as fast as she could. James ran to her car with her, and threw his football pads into the trunk.
"The fastest way to the hospital is to go around town. If we go through town, we might get stuck in traffic." She gave him a quiet 'ok' and he backed up out of the busy parking lot.
At the hospital, everyone was rushing around. There was so many noises going on around her, that Bryn started to get dizzy. When they got to the front desk, the receptionist was on the phone. She just held up her pointer at them. James rolled his eyes. He caught himself continuously looking at the clock as they waited for her to be done on the phone. At last, she hung up and looked up at them with impatient eyes.
"Can I help you with something?" Bryn glared. There was no reason to be rude.
"What room is Lias Hamilton in?" She typed something in on her computer.
"Right now he is going through immediate surgery." Bryn's heart dropped.
"For what??" James boomed.
"Some internal bleeding in his head, and a fractured skull." James scoffed.
"I thought football helmets were supposed to prevent things like this from happening!" She just shrugged.
"Probably a malfunction in his padding. The company might not have attached the padding correctly, or maybe someone messed with it, and didn't put it back in the correct way. You never know with things like these. I will let you know when he is out of surgery." They thanked her and went to sit in the waiting room. There were many other groups of people sitting in there. Some excited, some upset. Suddenly, the wide doors opened, and in walked an older couple that resembled Lias. 'They must be his parents' Bryn thought.
They were having the same issues with the receptionist that James and Bryn had. She gave out a sad sigh, stood up, and made her way to them.
"Hey. Are you Lias' parents?" Their heads snapped towards her.
"Who are you?" His mother asked and looked her up and down.
"I'm Bryn, Lias' friend." Recognition shone on her eyes.
"Oh yes. I've heard about you. All good things." She smiled. "Can you tell me what happened to my son? This lady isn't any help at all." Bryn said 'of course' and all three of them made their way to the seats next to James.
"What are you doing here?" Lias' dad growled and glared at James.
"This is my brother. He drove me here. He is the only one of my brothers that got along with Lias." James looked everywhere but at him.
"He's still one of those enemy football players." Lias' mom rolled her eyes.
"Will you stop with that enemy thing? It's childish." She scolded him.
"Sorry." He looked at the ground.
