The title says it all, practise what you preach. Almost all of us have studied this in school when we were small. Isn't it? Does islam says the same? Let's ponder upon the topic in the light of Quran and hadith.
"Do you command people to do well, but forgot your own souls, although you read the book? Do not you understand? [Al Bakrah: 44].
"O ye who believe, why say ye that which ye do not. Grievously hateful is in the sight of Allah that ye say which ye do not do." [Al saff: 2-3].
The Prophet ﷺ said: ..."A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown in the (hell) Fire, so that his intestines will come out, and he will go around like a donkey goes around a millstone. The people of (hell) Fire will gather around him and say: O so-and-so! What is wrong with you? Didn't you use to order us to do good deeds and forbid us to do bad deeds? He will reply: Yes, I used to order you to do good deeds, but I did not do them myself, and I used to forbid you to do bad deeds, yet I used to do them myself." (Bukhari,Book #54, Hadith #489)
The prophet ﷺ said "On the day of Qiyamah no one will be permitted to move away a single step until he is put these four questions: How did you spend your period of life? What use did you make of your youth? How did you earn your wealth and where did you spend it? HOW FAR DID YOU ACT UPON YOUR KNOWLEDGE? [Tirmidhi].
The islam teaches us the same thing on this topic as our value education taught us in our early schooling. But the question is how much do we act upon it? Question yourself that do you practise the same things what you preach? Or do you just render people with knowledge without even practising it?
Masha Allah I have across a lot of good things on wattpad. To be honest sometimes it motivated me spiritually a lot. And many people are doing dawah here through their beautiful books. But before publishing a chapter of your book do you once think that you are preaching AN ISLAMIC MESSAGE? Do you once think that before preaching you should have that in practice? Do you realise how much you can be punished if you do not have that in practise.
This is not to offend any readers.
To be honest I don't know you people personally and would never know the real you through social networking sites. This is just to inform you so that you people know it and because I love you all for the sake of Allah. Don't want you people to indulge in any sin. Of course this is the reminder that to me first after all I am writing about PRACTISE WHAT YOU PREACH.Dear writers, if you write about hijab or niqab make sure you wear it too, when you post about tahajjud then make sure you too wake up at the last hour of the night for your Lord, when you preach people to read Quran before going to bed and after waking up then make sure you do that too, even more than that. When you sit and pen down your thoughts to inspire people make sure you are first one to practise it. Islam would be better if we taste the dish before serving it on the plate of others.
Of course I am not saying to stop your preachings but to implement it before you tell people to practise them. Remember Allah does not like people who show off their knowledge without pondering upon it.
Remember Allah does not like people who share their knowledge without pondering upon it.
There's a beautiful saying 'it is a good divine that follow his own instructions; I can easily preach twenty what were good to be done, than to be one of the twenty to follow my own preaching.'
