Blake's POV

I roll over sleepily in my bed, groaning and covering my head with a pillow as my alarm clock blares in my ears. My attempt at a few extra moments of rest are interrupted, however, by something landing heavily on my ribs, followed by a series of high pitched barks. I shoot up at the sudden pressure on my side to see a small, black and brown puppy with extremely fluffy fur. The small creature wags its tail merrily, tongue lolling from the side of its mouth as it pants.

"Heya, Scout." I chuckle, patting the Husky/Shepard mix on the head. It yips loudly to me in greeting. "Just hold on a sec, boy. Let me change and I'll get your leash."

The pup barks a few times as if it understood me, before jumping to the floor and gnawing on a random rope toy.

I yawn loudly as I take my shirt off, before putting on one of my usual t-shirts. I look around the bedroom tiredly before sweatdropping as I note my clothes strewn across the floor and the mattress half off the bed. I know I'm a rough sleeper, but dang!

I grab a pair of old, slightly faded jeans and put them on before taking a comb through my messy hair, the teeth snagging roughly on a couple of knots. I then brush my teeth and grab a small, red leash.

"Come on, Scout!" I call, standing in the entrance hallway. I hear a series of lightly thumping footsteps and the jingling of my new dog's collar. His small claws scratch the wooden surface of the hallway floor as he excitedly runs in, and, consequentially, skids into the wall. I sweatdrop as the puppy picks himself up and vigorously shakes his head, before running the rest of the way.

The pup slides across the floor before ramming into my feet, causing me to chuckle. I bend down and clip the leash to Scout's collar.

I jog around the block, pulled along by the fluffy animal, when I hear a small sigh. Scout stops at the sound and sniffs at the air, before barking wildly and heading off in a random direction.

"Scout, stop!" I call as the leash escapes my grip, the puppy now bounding around the corner at a surprising speed. My feet pound the pavement as I, too, turn the corner, before stopping.

"You're so cute!" a female voice giggles. A teenage girl with brown hair and a hoodie sits, crouched down in front of my dog as she pets him. "And you have such beautiful blue eyes!"

The girl looks up as she hears my sneaker scuff the pavement, her smile faltering as a look of curiosity replaces it.

"This your dog?" she asks, eyebrow raised as she looks up at me. "I didn't know you had a pet."

"Yeah....." I nod, before pausing. "I didn't know you liked animals, Kaila."

The brunette deadpans at my statement, causing me to chuckle. "I'm just kidding." I see her hand a small piece of sausage to the pup, which he gnaws on happily. "So that's why he came running."

"I guess I make good sausage." she says with a shrug.

"You made that?" I ask, to which the girl nods. "Can I try a piece?"

"No!" she responds, trying to block the meat from my view.

"Why not?" I pout childishly.

"Because it's mine." she says, grinning as she takes a bite.
