Kageyama Tobio x Ghost! Reader: Ephemeral Bliss

Kageyama Tobio only stared blankly at the tombstone while clutching a bouquet of (favorite flower) in his hands. Just then, he let the tears he tried to mask with a forced smile fall from his dark blue orbs.

"Of all people, why do you have to leave?! Tell me!", bellowed Kageyama as he started to break down.

He, of all people, had to suffer this kind of excruciating anguish of losing his other half. He doesn't really know why he has to go through this kind of misery. Is it some kind of punishment inflicted by the sacred deities to atone for his shortcomings? Kageyama knew he can suffer the most painful, gruesome, and barbaric forms of torture known to humankind, but losing his beloved girlfriend is the only thing he could never withstand; he knows can survive without you, but, without you, everything around him becomes gloomy. You were his light, his warmth, his precious treasure... Truly, you were priceless in his eyes.

The King then unfolds his true nature as he weeps in agony.

People cry, not because they are weak, but because they have been strong for too long.

Yes, the mighty Kageyama Tobio did his best to deal with your loss, and losing his reason to live for makes death sound extremely pleasant for him. He wants to end his life, but he knows that it's not going to help him in any way.

...He did what he had to do-- he remained strong. For you.

But, he was strong for too long; he kept on concealing the pain in his heart and soul with a false smile. Now, he had finally reached his breaking point.

"(Y/N)... Didn't you know how much it hurt me to lose someone as priceless as you?!", the setter wailed.

The flowers in his trembling hands made contact with the ground as he fell to his knees and covered his face with his hands. There. Now, the King showcases his strength in an unexpected way.

"Tobio..."

The setter slapped himself repeatedly, turning both of his cheeks red. Is he hallucinating? He thought he had heard a voice, specifically, he had sworn that he actually heard your enchanting voice, the music to his ears. Is he dreaming? If it was a dream, how he wished he had fallen into a state of eternal slumber.

"Tobio, yoo-hoo!", it called out his name again.

"Please, don't wake me up from this beautiful dream!", Kageyama interjects while burying his face in his knees.

The (h/c) haired female clad in a simple white dress approached the male, then poked him lightly.

"Oi. Tobio~" she greets with a sing-song voice.

Kageyama's eyes grew as large as the moon.

"(Y/N)?!", he inquired in shock.

You giggled at his reaction, and gave him an affectionate peck on his cheek.

"You're right, Tobio. It's me!", you exclaimed joyfully as you jumped up and down in delight.

"My... precious... (Y/N)...", Kageyama murmured as he turned towards you.

You cupped his cheek endearingly. Kageyama stared mindlessly at you, and the tears that formed in the corners of his eyes immediately fell.

"(Y/N)..."

Your (e/c) orbs shone with glee, and you laughed at his expression. Back when you were alive, you liked teasing Kageyama whenever he gets too expressive, and it seems like nothing has ever changed. You were still the (Y/N) that the mighty King fell in love with.

"Baka! S-S-Stop laughing, (Y/N)!", Kageyama stammered; his cheeks turning pale red.

"Ne? My precious little Tobio-chan is still easily flustered...", you teased.

"Boke!", cried Kageyama.

"You are still my precious, beloved Kageyama Tobio, remember that. You know that I'm so glad that nothing has never changed. You still love me even though I was dead for three years. Thank you," you stated with a goofy little smile.

"Boke! Don't thank me! I should be thankful for you, (Y/N)! Why? You gave meaning into my life, and your death made me strive to be a stronger person... and a much better one as well...", replied Kageyama.

You gave him a light-hearted chuckle in response, and nudged him.

"(Y/N), let nothing change between us. I don't know what I'd do without your love!", the setter exclaimed.

"Tobio!", you yelled as you began to blush furiously. Kageyama couldn't see your reddened cheeks, since you were already a ghost. You sighed in relief at the thought.

Kageyama giggled. He knew that you were blushing madly; something he knew because of the tone of your voice. You smiled at him as you picked up the bouquet of flowers he previously held.

"Oh right. I forgot to tell you. Those flowers are for your death anniversary..", said Kageyama.

"I thought you forgot!", you interjected.

"H-How can I-I-I not forget? That very moment w-was a m-major turning p-p-point in my l-life!", he stuttered angrily, seemingly shocking you. You stared at him as he began to weep again.

"Tobio, please don't cry... I don't like seeing you cry! Stop!", you pleaded with tears falling from your own eyes.

"Haha. OK! I'll stop!", Kageyama stated as he wiped the tears off his eyes using the sleeves of his black school jacket.

You smiled warmly at him, then you wrapped your arms around his body, inhaling his scent.

"Tobio, I wish we could stay like this forever..", you muttered.

"Yes. Let this moment last forever..", he answered dreamily.

"I wish I could, but... I can't. I'm sorry, my beloved Tobio. You're a human being, and I'm just a mere specter.. You have to continue living your life, even if I'm not there beside you. And besides, I won't change anything. I'll remain being your beloved (Y/N). I will never stop loving you. Remember that, my dearest Kageyama Tobio, the King of my heart...", you murmured as you caressed his cheek.

"Eh? No! Don't you dare leave me! Oi!", Kageyama screamed as he saw you slowly vanishing.

"I am always going to guide you. I will always remain in your heart, Tobio.."

"(Y/N)! Don't leave me! Please!", Kageyama pleads.

You chuckled as you completely dissipated, leaving a crestfallen Kageyama all by himself. He smiles a little, then, falls to the ground in agony, with tears falling from his eyes like a waterfall. As he continued to shed tears, he did his best to maintain that smile on his features, because he promised to be strong for you, and he is going to keep that very promise come hell or high water.

The moment when he encountered your angelic smile once more left him in a state of ephemeral bliss. His happiness was only short-lived. The seconds you had spent with him is the only time when he can be genuinely joyful. When you completely disappear in front of his very eyes, he becomes lonely and empty again.

But, as stated before, Kageyama will do his best to keep his promise to you, because he really loves you.
