"Kristen?" I heard him whisper, rubbing his eyes in my doorway.
I jumped, sitting up quickly and groaning.
"What's happened? Are you okay?" I babbled.
"Sorry...I didn't mean to scare you," he said, perching on the end of my bed.
I hugged my knees, not fully wakened yet.
"No, no. Its fine," I yawned.
" I just...I just can't sleep without you next to me," he whispered, moving closer to kiss my lips.
I smiled and pulled him under the covers with me, holding him close. It felt good knowing that we had the same effect on each other.
"I know how you feel," I said into his chest.
We stayed up for hours chatting away to keep our minds off our family problems.
"Is the Halloween party still on this weekend?" I asked.
He laughed, " of course, that's if you still want to go?"
"Love to," I said, my eyes heavy and tired.
He brushed his fingers through my long hair, kissing my neck and ears.
"Your so beautiful," he said quietly.
"I'm kinda glad you spilt coffee on me, I never would have met you," I laughed.
"Kinda?"
"Okay a lot," I admitted.
He laughed and yawned, the cutest thing I have ever seen. We huddled together, slowly falling into a deep sleep, feeling safe in each others arms...
* * * *
Harry stayed at mine all week, me bunking off school for a change. I probably wasn't missing much. His mum and sister came round and apologised that I got caught up in their family issues. I didn't mind, I cared about Harry and his family. His mum looked like she hadn't slept in days, her eyes purple. I made them tea with a plateful of biscuits. Anne shook her head at the sight of food, Gemma nudging her.
"Mum you have to eat!" she scolded her.
Harry looked uncomfortable, sitting cross-legged on the floor.
"She's right mum," he said.
She smiled appreciatively at our concern and forced one down, sipping her tea politely.
"I'm glad my Harry found such a pretty responsible girl," she smiled.
Harry burst out laughing, covering his mouth. I couldn't help but giggle myself.
"Thanks...mum," he said.
Gemma laughed, Anne looking confused.
They thanked me and left, Harry going with them to get ready for the party.
"Ill see you later," he said, kissing my cheek.
"You will," I said, waving and closing the door.
I changed into my homemade costume, tying a piece of silk ribbon round my neck and a pair of cat ears on top of my head. My phone rang as I drew black whiskers on my face, an unknown number flashing on my screen.
"Hello?" I called down, wondering who it could be.
"Hi, Kristen?" a concerned woman asked," it's me, Lillian."
Lillian. My social worker from way back. How the hell did she get my number? I hung up, hoping she wouldn't call back. It rang again and I ignored it. I plugged my fingers in my ears, watching her phone again and again. I couldn't cope with this.
"Please! Please just leave me alone!" I begged, ready to hang up again.
"Wait! Kristen please!" she said quickly. I listened, " I know you probably didn't want to hear from me again but... its your parents. They're going to be released."
