The ambulance arrived, the scream of the siren making my ears ring. Harry kept whispering comforting words in my ear, telling me I would be okay. At that moment in time I didn't feel okay, my head was thumping in my ears, cheeks hot and pink.
Two women dressed in bright yellow coats rushed into the apartment, crouching beside me an shoving Harry out of their road. I reached my hand out to him, whimpering his name quietly.
"Kristen can you hear me?" they interrupted.
I nodded, tears streaming down my face along with the speckles of blood.
"Okay we're taking you to the hospital now honey," the other said calmly.
They carefully lifted me onto a stretcher with the help of Harry, trying their best not to hurt me. I groaned as my head started spinning again, squeezing Harry's hand.
"You okay?" he asked stupidly.
I was not okay, but I knew he meant well which comforted me more. So I nodded anyway and smiled to reassure him.
They loaded me into the vehicle and strapped me in so tight I couldn't move. He sat next to me, fidgeting nervously. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it hard, his green eyes wide, not blinking once.
"What did he do to you?" he asked, stroking my pink cheek.
I shook my head, telling him would make matters worse, "when I find him-"
"Harry don't do anything stupid, promise me?" I begged.
He bit his lip and nodded grudgingly, his pierced eyebrow narrowed at the thought of my dad.
"How did he find us? That's what I want to know!" he muttered loudly.
"Harry...stop," I whispered.
"I'm sorry...it's just-"
"I know," I sighed.
"If I hadn't left you in that house alone..." he mumbled sadly, a tear running down his cheek.
"Hey..." I said, sitting up slightly and wincing," it's not your fault."
I reached my hands up shakily and cupped his face, wiping the tears away with my thumb. Harry had never cried in front of me before and he looked amazingly beautiful. I pulled him down to kiss him gingerly just as the ambulance came to a stop.
The two women jumped in the back again, pulling me out to cart me into the hospital. People stared in horror as they rushed through the dim-lit corridors towards a room that said "theatre." I reached out to Harry who was running along beside me, the rage of what my dad had some to me keeping him going.
"You'll have to wait here," the nurse told him gently, pushing him back a little.
"Harry," I whimpered in hysterics.
"Sshhh, I'll be right here okay?" he whispered in my ear, kissing me softly, "I love you."
They took me away before I could reply, Harry's fingers slipping out off mine. The room was dull and white, people in blue masks to cover their mouths peering down at me. I notice a doctor with a syringe sitting next to me, pulling his little protective shield from his face to reveal a kind middle-aged man.
"We're just going to send you to sleep for a little while, okay?" he said softly, stroking my gaping head.
My chest was heaving from crying, my face damp and wet. I nodded and he started wiping my arm before sinking the needle into my skin, making my face screw up. It hurt a little but soon numbed as the room turned fuzzy. The doctor patted my hand as I slowly fell asleep, my eyes fluttering and shutting out the real world...
