I sat in English, waiting for the bell to ring. I wasn't exactly sure what these teachers could teach me, that I didn't already know, but I hoped it would be good. I had walked to class with Cecily, though my mind had been full of the boy I had walked into. I was still feeling very strange from the whole experience, and I didn't want to think about it.
Kids started to file into the classroom, and I studied them. Sometimes I liked to do this, humans were so different than my kind. They didn't seem to care about nature or the Earth, whereas my people were strongly connected to it. Suddenly, someone came and took a seat next to me, and I looked to my right.
I stared at the face of the boy I had bumped into, earlier, and again I found myself lost for words. What was going on with me? Was this some sort of magic disease that I was catching? They did exist, but they were rare
"Oh, it's you." The boy grinned. "Are you here to bump into me again?"
I cleared my throat. "No, I'm in this class."
"I figured." The boy looked amused. "Are you new here?"
"Yeah, My name is Tessa Gray." I said.
"Will Herondale." He smirked, and I wasn't sure why.
"You're Cecily's twin, aren't you?" I asked, and he grinned and nodded.
In fact, I was surprised I hadn't noticed it before. They looked exactly like each other, the same hair and eyes.
"And see that blonde boy over there?" Will gestured to a very good looking boy. "He's our cousin - Jace."
"You two look nothing like him." I observed.
"I know, it's quite unfortunate for him." Will smirked.
I chuckled lightly, his arrogance was amusing. Class started soon, and Mr. Martin started to speak about Charles Dickens and his books. I smiled to myself, I had known him, we had been friends. In fact, I had been the first one to read his book "A Tale of Two Cities" and ever since then, it had been my favourite. I had known Jane Austen and Emily Bronte, too. The Victorian era had been my favourite time period. I had lived in London then, for a few years. I didn't always stay in the magic world, but I lived there most of the time. I always liked to travel the world, though.
"Do you read?" Will asked me suddenly.
I nodded. "I love classics."
"Me too." He grinned.
I smiled. "I love Charles Dickens' books. Especially 'A Tale of Two Cities'"
"I wish you to know that you have been the last dream of my soul." Will recited.
I smiled brightly. "I love that quote. It's my favourite one."
"I knew it."Will smirked.
"How?"
He shrugged, and grinned. "Had a feeling."
The rest morning passed by quickly, and I ended up having Math -my second period- with Will and Clary. I sat next to Will in Math, too. Weird, right? At lunch, I sat with Clary, Isabelle, Cecily, Will, Jace, Alec -Isabelle's twin brother - and their cousin, Gabriel.
"Where did you move here from?" Isabelle asked me.
"New York." I replied. My family had been told to say that.
"Do you miss it?" Clary asked.
I smiled sadly, thinking of the magic world. "Yeah, I do."
"Ff colli cymru." Will grinned.
I recognized the language to be welsh. I miss Wales, he had said. That was another perk of being witch: you could understand and speak all languages.
"Oeddech yn byw yno?" I replied.
Will looked surprised. "Yeah, Cecily and I used to live in Wales. You know how to speak Welsh?"
"Yeah, I wanted to learn it." I lied, feeling slightly bad.
Will only stared at me, looking amused. I quickly looked away from him, flushing.
"Why did you move here?" Jace asked casually.
"My dad got a job here." I replied. "He forced us all to move out here."
"You must miss your friends." Clary smiled slightly.
I smiled sadly. "I do."
Jem Carstairs was my best friend, back in the magic world. We met each other when I had gone to China in 1878, I had heard him playing his violin in this hotel I was staying at and from then on we were best friends. We had dated for a few months in 1879, but it didn't feel right.
Jem and I could never be more than just friends, we both knew that. I knew how to play the piano, and sometimes we would do duets together. Him on the violin, and me on the piano. I smiled at the memory. Jem was really the only friend I had, and I missed him terribly.
"Hey, we're all going to the mall tomorrow. You should come, Tessa." Cecily smiled.
I smiled. "Sure, that sounds fun."
"Here, pass me your phone, I'll put in our numbers." Cecily suggested.
My smile disappeared. Oh god, I was horrible with technology. Every time I tried to use my phone or the computer, I got really confused and ended up using magic to do what I needed to do.
"Sure." I breathed.
I pulled out my iPhone from my bag, and put in the password. Okay, now where was the contacts app? I searched the pages, knowing that everyone was staring at me expectantly. Ugh, I didn't even know what it looked like! I never really used my phone. We didn't use much technology in the magic world.
Defeated, I silently said a spell, and the contacts app popped up on my screen. I handed my phone to Cecily, and she started to type. She said that she would text me the details tomorrow, and that we would all meet at the mall, after school. I smiled, I was actually going to hang out with humans for a change.
This will be interesting, I thought.
