Chapter 6: Alliance

Ellie walks out of the house. Don is talking with Tommy and notices her walk out. "Ellie!" Don waves her over. Ellie walks over and gives a slight smile. "So I'll be staying with you guys!" Don smiles. Ellie gives him a look. "Joel's gonna be happy about that..." She says sarcastically. "Sorry, there's no where for him to stay right now." Tommy shrugs. Ellie sees Joel walk out with his rifle. "What's he doing?" Don peeks Tommy's shoulder. "Taking his guarding shift down by the plant." Ellie responds. "Hey Joel, wait up!" Tommy runs over to Joel who has his rifle proped up on his shoulder. "I'll see you two later!" Tommy calls. Ellie nods and walks off with Don. 

"You're not gonna like this..." Tommy shrugs. Joel sighs. "What is it?" Tommy pauses of how to start off. "Well... Don has to stay with you and Ellie." Joel sighs heavily and rolls his eyes. "Joel, you know we're short on cabins. I mean we're over fifty family strong now." Tommy shrugs. Joel stays silent. "It's just til' we can get more built. Should only be a few weeks." Tommy slightly smiled. Joel blew out some air and nodded. 

The two arrived at the plant, where a few others stood. "Tommy," A man named Ethan nodded. "How are things, Ethan?" Tommy smiled. "Things are looking ok, there are reports that there is some suspicious activity going on around the plant." Ethan shrugged. Joel nodded and walked inside the big gate and walked up the stairs to the guarding point. Tommy sat on the other side. Joel looked at a distance at the forest, there was nothing. He closed his eyes.

When he reopened his eyes, he was standing. How the hell did he get there? Joel looked over at Tommy, who seemed to be yelling something, but he couldn't hear him. Joel looked around. There were hunters everywhere. Joel had his rifle in his hand. "Joel!" Tommy yelled. Joel quickly looked at Tommy. "JOEL!" He yelled louder and leaped at him. Joel landed on the ground with a thud. He heard a crackle from gunfire, but it didn't hit him. Joel looked at Tommy. "Oh Shit." Joel rushed over to Tommy's side. He was bleeding heavily from his abdomen. "Oh, God." Joel put his hand on Tommy's wound. "Stay with me, Little Brother." Joel panted. Tommy breathed heavily. He cried in pain. Ethan rushed over after taking out a few of the hunters. "You take him back to safety, I got this." Ethan spoke. Joel nodded and lifted Tommy by his shoulders. Tommy cried out in pain again.

There was a loud commotion from the front gate. "He's been shot!" Ellie heard someone call. Ellie and Don rushed over. Ellie expected the worst. Ellie got closer and saw Joel, who had blood on his hands, but it wasn't his. Ellie looked down and saw Tommy. "Oh my god." Ellie rushed over. "Joel are you ok?" Ellie asked. "I'm fine. It's Tommy we should be worried about." Joel panted. Two men lifted up Tommy and rushed him to the nurses aid cabin. Ellie looked back up at Joel. He was crying, which he did rarely. Out of the crowed, a little figure popped out. Maria and Richard walked up to Joel. "Daddy." Richard pointed over to the men who carried Tommy. "What the hell happened?" Maria was crying. "We get attacked." Joel replied.

Ellie followed Joel back into their cabin. Joel immediately sat on the sofa and buried his face into his hands. "It's All my fault." Ellie gave him a weird look. "What?" . "I said it's my fault. It should've been me. He pushed my out of the way and he got shot." Joel shook his head. His voice was drowned out by his sorrow. "Joel." Ellie hugged him.
