Jacqui's Pov
I wake up and the bed is shaking because Leo is shaking me."Come on Jacqui, we gotta go!" He whisper/shouts.
"Okay, just give me sec." I reply.I get out of bed and he grabs a duffel bag and puts his clothes in. He opens a drawer and pulls out a gun and two pocket knives.
I look at him in horror as he puts the weapons in the duffel bag.
He turns and faces me."Don't worry, it's for self defence if Mark comes after us." He explains quietly.
I nod my head.He zips up the bag and goes downstairs. I wait upstairs for him while he gets some water and food from the kitchen. Mark is asleep on the couch so Leo better not make any sound.
I hear footsteps quickly but quietly running up the stairs. Leo enters the room quietly. He gives me the thumbs up meaning that we are all good to go.
We both head downstairs very quietly and slowly. When we reach the bottom of the staircase, Leo says something. "Wait here, I just gotta get the key." He says. I nod my head and wait for him to come back.
A few seconds pass and he is back next to me with the key in his hand. I nod and we move to the back door.
He puts the key in the lock and turns it. It clicks quite loudly and I hear Mark stir. "Quick Leo." I say quietly. He takes the key out and turns the door handle. The door opens and he motions for me to go out of the door first. I quickly walk out and wait for him to come.
Suddenly before Leo can escape, a gun shot goes off. I stare at Leo as I see him fall in pain. I see Mark there holding a gun in his hand. I quickly open the duffel bag and grab the gun.
I aim and close my eyes. I pull the trigger and I hear a thud. I open my eyes and look at the ground.
I see Mark there lying in a puddle of his own blood. I look at Leo in horror. I start crying. "I just killed someone!! I am a murderer!!!" I scream.
I suddenly realise Leo is still on the ground holding his leg. I see that the bullet has grazed it but hasn't gone through his leg. I help him stand up. I put my hand around his waist and he puts his arm around my neck for support.
"I'm so sorry, I just killed your dad..." I trail off. I look down at the ground.
"Hey, it's okay, I hated him anyways. If you didn't kill him, then I would have." He said. A small smile made its way onto my face."Anyways, I think you have a better aim than me." He says truthfully. I laugh a little before picking up the duffel bag.
"So what food did you pack?" I ask Leo. "Ah I think I packed a bit of fruit, some packets of chips and lollies and some vegetables. And for the drinks I packed us a lot of bottles of water." He replies with.
I nod my head."We should probably head off." I say.
He nods his head in agreement. We start off at a slow pace because of Leo's leg but we continue to gradually get faster.
It is dark really soon and we find a place in the woods to camp out. He also brought some coats and blankets, and a few torches.
We settle down and I grab some sticks that look good to make a fire. I set the sticks to make a triangle shaped thing.
I rub a stone on a stick and a I catch a spark. The spark flies onto the pile of sticks and a fire starts. I sit close to the fire and Leo sits close with me. He opens the bag and gets out an apple. He asks if I want one and I nod my head as if to say yes please. He gets an apple out for me and we start eating.
He grabs two water bottles and hands one to me. I take it greatfully and drink half of it. I look at my watch and it says 9:56 pm.
"I think I'm going to go to sleep now." I say to him.
"Okay good night Jacqui and thank you for helping me escape." Leo says.
I nod my head and lie down. Leo puts one of the blankets around me and I slowly drift off.---------------------------------------------------------
