It had been a good 2 months since my first visit to my mother. I still went by to visit her every other week and the 2 of us had regained the relationship we'd shared 2 years ago. Robert had turned out to be a very nice man as well, very humorous and overall, quite perfect. I could see what my mother saw in him and the 2 of us maintained a healthy relationship. Father had decided to sell his house and move into Brampton to be closer to both his son and me as well. After asking several times, I finally moved back in with him but spent most of my time with Lisa, Jack and Michel anyway. Father maintained a very cordial relationship with my mother and seemed to bond more with Lisa although it was evident that he still loved my mother quite dearly. Lisa seemed to be happier as well, and often invited my father for dinner. Initially, Jack had ignored Father completely and had refused to speak to him but had moved on since then. Now, he, Michel and my Father spent many evenings horse-riding or playing a good game of cards. They often took me along as well and I could tell just how happy this made Lisa. Currently, Lisa's house was packed with the family, as it was Christmas Eve. I'd decided to stay at Lisa's house and Father, Mother, Robert and Michel's father had all arrived first thing in the morning. The rest of the family had arrived the night before.
"Everyone, dinner is ready," announced Lisa and the whole family gathered around the table. I remained standing, waiting for Michel who had disappeared a few minutes ago to go get something. He'd initially been quite upset when I told him I would back in with my father but he got over it when he realized I spent most of my time at his house anyway. After everyone had sat down, he finally came downstairs carrying a red rose in his hand. I smiled as he came closer, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
"I thought you might like this, " he said and handed me the rose. Tucked in between the petals was a small diamond ring that glinted when it caught the light. I gasped as Michel took the ring and went down on one knee, his eyes shining as he looked up at me.
"Emma, will you do me the honor of being my wife," he asked and I nodded as the tears slipped down my face. My heart was threatening to explode with emotion as I looked into his dark blue eyes. I still couldn't believe this was happening. He smiled and slid the ring onto my finger before pressing his lips to the back of it, just as he'd done the first time we'd met. He stood up and I threw my arms around his neck while his fingers gently placed the rose in my hair before holding me tightly against him. He finally drew back and I looked at him before looking at the rest of the table, where everyone had huge smiles on their faces. A similar smile lit up mine as I looked back at Michel, thinking of how lucky I was to have such a wonderful family, and soon, a wonderful husband as well. I'd finally found love, and it was more than I could ever ask for.
