The following morning, Lisa announced that she had some exciting news for the 3 of us related to thanksgiving, which was this weekend.

"The whole family is coming over here to celebrate Thanksgiving with us, isn't that great?" she said in an excited tone. Jack groaned loudly and Michel laughed, patting his brother roughly on the back.

"What's wrong," I asked, glancing between the 2 of them.

"Michel's cousin, Johanna is desperately in love with him but he refuses to give her any attention," said Michel in an amused tone.

"She's really nice, it's just we have absolutely nothing in common," Jack whined before excusing himself from the table.

"I think he likes her too, he's just trying to ignore the feeling," Michel whispered and I laughed before looking up at Jack who was staring daggers at the both of us.

"Enough you three, Jack you have to be nice to the poor girl, understood?"

"Yes mother," Jack replied glumly before leaving the room. I realized that if guests would be staying over for the next 2 days, I wouldn't be able to go out to search for my mother. I'd been planning to take the letter up to the local post office to see if they had any clue as to where the letter had come from. The chances were really slim but I had to take any chance I could get.

"I think I'm going to go look for my mother today," I said and Lisa nodded her head in approval.

"Can I go with her," Michel asked his mother.

"Absolutely not, you and Jack need to help me clean the house for the guests tomorrow."

Michel groaned and shot me a mournful glance before leaving the table. I smirked at him and he stuck out his tongue before turning his back on me.

"If you need more help, I could stay," but Lisa shook her head stating that the 2 boys were more than enough.

"You can take the carriage darling, I have no use for it today."

I muttered a quick thanks before leaving the table to fetch my overcoat. The sun was out today but I took it just in case. In its pocket was my mother's letter and the envelope.

"I'll be back by 8:00," I hollered before walking out the door.
