Night walk?! Oh, man! Not that! Of all things to do, night walk? Hana thought. This was not going to be fun. Though Hana had never been on one before, from what she heard other people said, it was scary. She hoped it wouldn't be very scary. People around her were also talking, all fearing the night walk.

Everyone was now engaged in their own conversation while waiting. Hana had no one to talk to. She felt bored. Maybe she should try to join in? Or maybe not? Wouldn't it be weird to jump into their conversation? As Hana was busy contemplating, someone tapped on her shoulder. Hana turned around and saw Bernice asking, "Hey Hana, are you scared? I went for a night walk for my club camp and it was freaking creepy! Our seniors dressed up as ghosts to scare us!"

"Umm... I don't know. I guess... A bit?" Hana said softly.

"Me too! Me too!" Carrie added. "It looks super scary outside now that it's getting dark."

"Nah, I don't think it's scary. It's just a walk in the dark. What's there to be afraid of?" Sasha said.

And just like that, Hana joined in the conversation with Bernice, Sasha, Carrie and some of her classmates. She found out that Carrie was quite friendly and cheery. She had kind of gotten a little  close to Carrie and Sasha after spending most of her time with them the whole day. It seems like the three of them were always at a corner of the class and somehow they just started talking a bit more. Maybe it seems like she was going to make some friends after all. But she still felt a little uneasy about being friends with Sasha though.

An hour later, the American-looking guy came back and said, "Listen up, everyone! We'll be starting the night walk now. You'll be going alone but don't worry about getting lost. There'll be people to guide you along the way! Ok, can we have the first ten people from the class over there to come with me?"

He had pointed to the class beside them. I guess it'll be our turn soon, Hana thought nervously. She wondered what it'll be like.

A couple of girls in her class asked Andrew, "Can't we go in pairs? Please?"

"Sorry but no, " Andrew replied.

"Why?" Dani whined.

"No, means no." Andrew insisted. "And that's that."

It was finally Hana's turn to go for the night walk. Hana felt super nervous as she walked out of the foyer and into the dark. She had gone together with Bernice, Sasha, Carrie, Han and Keane. All of them stood at the start point watching as one by one those in front of them went further and further away from them.

Sasha was the first to go. She didn't seem afraid at all. She had went forward without hesitation, unlike some of her other classmates in front of her. Lucky her, Hana thought. Being so brave.

After Sasha disappeared into the dark, it was Hana's turn. She took a deep breath, calming herself and trying not to be afraid. Bernice leaned over and whispered, "Remember our plan?"

Hana peeked at the guy standing in front of her, staring into the dark, who was one of the camp facilitators, and nodded her head before he turned around and said, "Ok, next."

Once again, Hana took a deep breath and started walking forward.

The further she walked, the darker her surroundings became until there was barely any light at all. It was almost complete darkness here. She could barely see anything. All she could her was the crickets chirping and the occasional crunch of leaves as she stepped on them.

Up ahead, Hana spotted someone. Was it one of the camp organizers trying to guide her to the next part of the walk or were he or she trying to scare her? Or was it Sasha, who was in front of her?

As Hana approached the person, Hana could make out that he was a guy.

He said, "There's a flight of stairs down here, please be careful. And turn left once you go down."

It was Andrew. Hana recognized his voice the instant he spoke. As she groped around blindly to find the railing, she felt him grabbing her hand and putting on the railing. Gosh, his hands are so big and warm. She thought. She could feel her cheeks hotter. She was blushing. Hana had even wanted to say a thank you to him but she just couldn't get it out because she was too shy to say it.

As she carefully made her way down the steps, she could Andrew once again repeating what he had just said. There must be someone behind her, Hana thought. Was it Bernice? She was behind her before she left. Or was it Keane or Han? Hana was curious.

When Hana finally went down the stairs, she turned to look. It was Keane, who was behind her. Hana slowed her pace on purpose to wait for him. As he caught up with her, he said, " Hey, slow down a bit more. I think Bernice and Carrie are right behind us."

They waited for Bernice and Carrie and the four of them started walking together.

"Phew!" Carrie said. "It's less scary like this."

"Yeah," Bernice agreed.

"Oh, shit!" Keane suddenly whispered.

"What?" Bernice asked.

"Look, there's a guy in front. Great. What do we do?! He's bound to see us!" Keane said.

Sure enough, there was a guy standing beneath a lamp post about fifty meters ahead.

Uh oh, not good. Hana thought. But there was nothing they could do. They couldn't turn back now that the guy was motioning for them to go over. Hana sighed. They were going to get caught. What was the guy going to do them?
