Chapter Thirteen: The Decision
After Zorell left the hospital, she made her way to the café. She hoped that Shanee was right about Gavin being there. As she approached the establishment, she could see through the window, and there was a man sitting in the corner table that looked very much like Gavin. She wasn't sure if it was actually him, and she didn't want it to seem like she was following him so she just entered casually.
If it was even two seconds before she entered, when she was approached by the owner and the man who served them the last time she was there.
"Mister Zapher, am I right?" she asked, and he laughed heartily. He was a nice man and seemed to always be in a good mood.
"Yes, my dear, you remembered," he said and took her hand. "Are you meeting the young gentleman for lunch?"
"What young gentleman?" she asked, but she knew exactly who he was referring to.
"Why, Mister Lorio," he said, and he looked confused. "I assumed he hasn't ordered yet because he was waiting for you."
"Oh, I didn't even know he was going to be here," she said as they approached his table. He was reading the paper and hadn't as of yet looked up from it.
Mister Zapher cleared his throat and opened his mouth to speak. "Your lunch guest has arrived, Mister Lorio."
"I told you before I wasn't expecting..." Just then he looked up to see Zorell standing next to the jolly old Mister Zapher. The older man looked pleased and would often play matchmaker for not only his patrons but employees as well. He considered them more like friends rather than customers and paid workers.
"Good afternoon," Zorell said with her face a little flustered. She was nervous and couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Well, I guess it is a good afternoon," Gavin said and put down his paper. He had been staring at her since he realized that she was standing at his table. The gesture made her nervous, which was a fact that she was trying to hide.
He stood up and approached her, and she felt her knees go weak like they were full of water. Zorell just realized the Mister Zapher had departed, and she was left with Gavin alone. The café was nearly empty, and she felt like no one else was there but the two of them.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, but her mind went blank for a moment. "Zorell?"
"Oh, it's simple," she said as he looked a little confused. "I just got hungry, and remembered this place as having delicious food and a nice atmosphere..." She realized that she was starting to babble and stopped talking.
"So, I guess we were thinking the same thing," he said and pulled out a chair for her. He was still the gentleman, and she sat down making herself comfortable in her seat as he took his place across from her. "What are you hungry for?"
