When Leland returned to the nurses' station, he found that Zorell was there talking to the head nurse. His old childhood friend had a serious look on her face, and he wondered what it was about. He stood back and waited for the conversation to be over. He had to wait until the doctors were through examining Shanee, before he could see her again anyway.
She walked into the waiting room and took a seat. He sat there remembering what Shanee had said, thinking that he was just a dream. Since the day they split he had dreamed of her every night. In his dream the breakup never happened. That is was just a nightmare, but when he woke up he realized having her in his arms again was the real fantasy. It all seemed to be changing though or so he hoped. He figured fate wouldn't be so cruel to give Shanee back to him just to take her away again.
He sat there so haunted by his own thoughts of what could happen that he didn't notice that someone came and sat beside him. "Yvonne told me what happened." He looked up to see Zorell sitting there. He thought she looked hopeful, but it could have been that he just decided to think positive about the situation and stop thinking that the bottom would drop out on him at any moment.
"She woke up, but I still don't know what will happen," Leland said and looked down at the floor. "Doctor Moses is in there with two others examining her."
"Her waking up is a good sign, Lee," she said and took his hand. "Just think positive. That will help her more than anything, no gloom and doom, okay?"
"Sure," he said and put on a half-smile.
"Look, Lee, I have to get back to work, but I'll check on her after my shift is over." She stood up and was ready to leave, when she heard Leland's voice once again.
"Thanks for being such a good friend, Zo," he said and smiled and walked off with one of the other nurses.
Zorell was led down the hall by a nurse only a few years older than her. She learned her name was Dara Richards, and she had the same shade of brown hair as she did. Unlike hers it was short and straight and looked very much the style that Coleen Moore wore. Zorell remembered seeing one of her movies and she had a stylish straight bobbed hairstyle, short bangs in the front and longer in the in the back, but her longest hair only reaching the nape of her neck. It looked cute with her nurses' hat and her small framed body. She was about two inches shorter than Zorell and wore glasses. She was quite pretty but not drop dead gorgeous like Ava.
"How's your first day been so far?" Dara asked her as they reached the supply room.
"Oh, not bad, but that Doctor Grant could use some manners," Zorell said and Dara burst out laughing.
"I don't disagree," she said, while opening the desk drawer and pulling out a folder. "He hasn't always been that way, you know, only since his wife left him."
"It must have been heartbreaking," Zorell said, feeling a sudden pang of sympathy for him.
"Not really," she said and gave Zorell a coy look. "They both cheated on each other, but she just fell in love with the chap she was catting around with."
