Hey, I'm back with a short part. There's a new character being introduced to Zorell in this scene. Will it be good or bad? Read on.
"Can I help you?" she asked, but the dark-haired beauty slowly formed a smirk on her face.
"No, honey, but I can help you?" she said and hovered over her. She felt like prey to this carnivorous bird.
She studied the woman and noticed her finely chiseled features. She had porcelain skin that was reminiscent of a hand-crafted doll. It contrasted perfectly with her dark eyes and her hair that was black as coal. She had a smile on her face, but it wasn't a warm one of someone who was happy to meet her. Zorell remained guarded but still hospitable.
"What do you mean by that?" she asked, but the dark-haired woman just looked coyly at her. It was slowly making her more and more uncomfortable.
"I'm talking about the boss man," she said and sat down without officially being invited. Zorell was confused by her words. "Little Marys like you don't belong in places like this, and how long do you think little Gav is going to keep his interest? He is a man, after all."
"So, I've noticed," Zorell said, feeling as if this would-be friendly conversation was trying into a challenge." Zorell tried to act disinterested but this odd woman wouldn't let the conversation die.
"Honey, men like him only takes vanilla for a little while." Zorell should have been offended, but the dark-haired woman was sounding too ridiculous. Perhaps she didn't have as much experience with men, but it didn't mean she didn't understand anything about how the world worked. She kept silent as her opposition rattled on. "Soon he's gonna want a little wild cherry."
"If this is about Gavin..." she tried to say, acting as if she were referring to someone else.
"You know very well I'm talking about Gavin," she said with a straight face.
"We're just friends, and I'm just here to see the show," Zorell said but in her mind, she knew that was not the truth. Even so, she wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of admitting it to this hostile stranger.
"Sure, honey, keep telling yourself that," she said and stood up.
She sashayed away putting on a spectacle. She was one of those flashy girls that her brothers were always going on about and her father disapproved of.
Zorell had to laugh to herself and wondered if she was once Gavin's girl or just an admirer. "Is she bothering you, Miss Dupree?" Hearing her name startled her, and she let out a little squeak. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." She looked up to see a young man in a waiter's outfit.
"No, it's alright," Zorell said, still thinking of the hateful words that woman spewed out of her mouth.
"Olivia is always like that," he said and laughed a little. "She doesn't like it when the boss brings ladies to the club. Thinks she has a hold on him, but he don't like her, not a gal like that, but you... I see how much he fancies you."
"Do you really think so?" Zorell asked. She knew what he said was true in her heart, but hearing someone else say it made it even more real.
"Why wouldn't he?" Gals like Olivia are a dime a dozen but ladies, but real ladies like you, they're a rare breed."
This conversation was making her uneasy, but suddenly the band started up again as a well-dressed man in a tuxedo dawned the stage. "I guess the show is starting," she said and turned her attention to the stage.
"May I have your attention, ladies and gentlemen," he said as everyone focused their attention on him.
I added a picture of Olivia. She's beautiful but trouble.
I hope you enjoyed this part, and I'll be back soon with another. Olivia is not the only person causing trouble. Dangerous lurks in the shadows, and someone might get killed.
