I brought Shallan onto the bus. We only have five bunks so I guess I'm sleeping on the couch for awhile. I set Shallan's suitcase by the bunks and walk back to the lounge where the guys are bombarding her with questions. She looks extremely flustered. I understand that. I used to be like that. Whenever anyone asked me anything I just kind shut down and couldn't think, especially if they asked more than one question.
"Guys, leave her alone." they all back up and Shallan sighs in relief. Gerard drags Frank somewhere and Ray sits down with his guitar. I grab Shallan's hand and gently tug back to where the bunks are.
"This where you'll be sleeping." I point at my bunk. She nods. I pull the curtain back and mentally facepalm because I left my stuff on the bed. I grab my laptop, some comic books, and chargers as well as my sweater and about ten pair of dirty socks(I wear socks to bed and then take them off in my sleep) (AN: I actually do that it's really weird)
"Who's stuff was that?"
"Mine. Sorry."
"Am I taking your bed?"
"Yeah. It's fine. I'll sleep on the couch." Her eyes go to the couch which isn't very big.
"I can't take your bed. I'll sleep on the couch."
"No you're taking the bed and that's final." I hear snickering behind me. I turn to see Gee and Frank.
"Fine I'll take the bed." Shallan whispers. She sits on the couch. She puts her hands over her face. Gee and Frank walk off. I check and make sure all my stuff is out of the bunk before turning back to Shallan. Her hands are still over her face and she's shaking. Oh god she's crying. What happened? What did I do? I sit down beside her.
"Shallan what's wrong?" She shakes her head.
"Was it something I did?" she shakes her head again.
"Then what was it?" She sniffs and wipes her face on the sleeve of her shirt.
"I-I'm sorry. I just need a minute." she whispers.
"Do want me to leave you alone?" she shrugs.
"Do you want some coffee?"
"Sure." she whispers. I walk into the kitchen. Gee is standing back to me talking to Frank. Frank sees me and I put my finger to my lips. He very subtly nods. I walk up behind Gee and flick the back of his head. Gee's hand immediately lands on he back of his head. He turns and glares at me. I half smile and walk past him. I work on making coffee. When it's ready I make two cups. I carry them back to Shallan. She's not crying anymore, but her eyes are all red. I sit and hand her the cup of coffee.
"I wasn't sure how you liked it so I just took a guess." She nods and takes a sip. She smiles and nods.
"It's perfect." she tells me," Thank you."
"Sure." I take a sip of my coffee and realize that I gave her mine. This cup has way to much sugar. I stand and walk back into the kitchen. Gee is gone but Frank is still there. I dump out the coffee and pour myself another cup. I fix it how I like it and walk back to Shallan. She's now curled up on the couch with a very large book. I grab my laptop and sit on the other end of the couch. There's a thud at the front of the bus. We both look toward the noise. Frank comes running towards us with a very mad Gee on his tail.
"Get back here you little shit." Gerard yells. Frank laughs and ducks into his bunk. Gee dives in after him.
"Ow, ow, ow. Gee stop it. I'm sorry. Please stop. Ow!" then it gets quiet. Shallan and I look at each other. She raises her eyebrows and I just shrug. Gee hops out of the bunk and walks back to where ever he was. Frank gets out a second later one hand on the back of his head and the other cradled against his chest. He mutters something that sounds like, "prick" before walking into the bathroom and slamming the door. I can't help but laugh just a little bit.
"You guys are so weird."
"Better get used to it. Otherwise it will be a very long few months." I tell her. She nods and goes back to her book.
"What book are you reading?" I ask. She holds it up so I can read the cover. It's called An Angel's Last Breath. I'm not much for reading actual books, but it sounds cool.
"Is it good?" she nods. And that ends our conversation. We sit in quiet and drink our coffee and it's actually quite pleasant. When my mug is empty I walk into the kitchen with it. The bus door opens and Pete and Patrick walk in.
"Guess what day it is!" Pete yells as soon as he sees me.
"Oh shit. Was that today?"
"Yes." I groan. I can't believe I forgot. I am an idiot. Simple as that. Not that I really care, because now I can't go.
"You forgot didn't you." Patrick says. I nod.
"Dude, seriously?"
"I'm sorry. Stuff happened."
"Like what?"
"Life." Pete gives me an exasperated look.
"More specifically?" Before I can reply Shallan walks in.
"Mikey, Frank's-" she stops short when she notices Pete and Patrick.
"What did Frank do?" I ask. She shakes her head. Her eyes are wide.
"Who's this?" Patrick asks.
"This is Shallan. Shallan this is Pete and Patrick aka the bass player and lead singer of Fall Out Boy."
"Is this the girl you adopted?" Patrick asks. I nod.
"Shallan. Odd name." Pete repeats her name a few times. Shallan blushes and steps behind me.
"Well you're obviously busy so we'll come back later." Patrick says and tries to push Pete in the direction of the door.
"Yeah...um...I'll text or something."
"Yeah. Maybe next week?"
"I doubt it."
"Party pooper." Pete says, before Patrick pushes him out the door and closes it behind them. I turn to Shallan. She's gone. I make my way back to the couch where I find her reading. She doesn't even notice when I sit down on the other end of the couch that's how wrapped up in her book she is.
