Jessie's P.O.V.
I caught the blue cap as it fell back down to me, grinning. The tassel swung wildly from it, and the gold chords around my neck gleamed in the bright spring sunshine.
All around me, I heard the screams of my fellow students as they cheered at the prospect of having graduated. But I instead, simply closed my eyes.
The sunlight warmed my royal blue robes, warming me in the still slightly chilly spring air. The air was full of the sweet smell of water in grass, and I tuned out everyone around me so their voices became an incomprehensible blur to me.
I lifted my arms, the soft breeze caressing my face and moving the arms on my robes.
I don't know if everyone feels this way after Graduation, but I really did feel as if I took a sudden step into something else. I didn't know what it was, but something else already felt different.
I thought about all of the crazy things that had happened in the last two years to me and I was astounded at it all.
Sturdy arms wrapped around my waist and I opened my eyes to find a grinning Cameron. Smiling back I said wrapping my hands around his neck, "I see that you got a cord around your neck." He grinned and said, "Thanks to you." I played with it and say, "You worked hard for it." He grinned as kissed my forehead gently, "Yeah, but it was worth it."
I felt hands on my shoulders, spinning me around and ripping me away from Cameron. I only had a second to process what was going on before I was overcome by copper colored hair. "We graduated!" Kaylee shrieked. I rolled my eyes and said sarcasticallly, "Yeah, I was so worried you wouldn't pass."
Kaylee pulled away still grinning, before she flicked my nose.
"Hey! You four! Smile!" we turned to see Cameron and my mom holding their phones up. I grinned and got into a semicircle for the picture.
My whole family had come down for graduation, which was lovely of them, and Lani and my mother had basically been by each other since the moment she arrived in town.
Shaun's P.O.V.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in a blur of pictures being taken, smiles, and endless graduation parties.
I sat, exhausted, in a chair at Chad Norwick's party, this year's senior varsity quarterback. Across the room Johnny was playing a game of ping pong with some of the other football players and he seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself.
A sweet scent reached my nose, and I turned, already knowing that it was Kaylee.
Her eyes were bright and her cheeks were flushed in excitement. "Hey, you know how I really wanted to make it into the University of California? How they have that really great Neurosurgery program?" she asked, barely suppressing her energy.
She handed a letter to me, and my face split into a grin as I read over her acceptance letter. "Wow, Kay, this is awesome! I'm so proud-"
But I was cut off as she held up a hand and said, "I also have this." She handed another white envelope to me and I felt my heart stop as I read the name of the school on the letter.
"How-what....Is this what I think it is?" I asked, shocked as I looked up at Kaylee, my heart beating ten times faster than normal.
Her face split into a grin, "I knew how much you wanted to go there so I, somehow, managed to get my parents to pull a few strings. You're in. Plus you have a full ride scholarship through some of the programs."
I ripped open the letter and stared down at it in shock as I ran my hand through my hair. "Oh God, Kaylee..."
She smiled as she looked at me, and I pulled her to me saying over and over again, "Thank you. Oh God, thank you."
