"Horus?" A loud voice shouted down the empty halls followed by doors slaming and opening. "Horus!" Raising from the chamber bed, Horus pulled away the sheets and stood up. He was dressed in nothing but a long Shendyt that reached his feet. A gold waist belt held the material in place. The god moved towards the balcony and flung open the hanging silk drapes to stare out at the morning sunrise.
The doors to the chamber burst open. In that moment Horus was tempted to murder whoever that passed through the door without his permission. But he changed his mind as he turned and instead saw his beautiful wife.
Hathor lowered her head and removed her glorious Egyptian headdress and placed it on a nearby table. Horus took note of this act and narrowed his gaze at her. Something was wrong. Though his eyes were on her, the goddess of love kept her glance to the floor in silence. Her right hand was over her left wrist and she roughly moved it up and down as if agitated.
"Hathor," Horus started and moved towards her. "What is bothering you, my beautiful desert rose?" Hathor didn't reply until Horus reached her and placed a hand on her cheek and lifted her head to look up at him. Her black golden eyes looked at his green golden orbs and held his stare.
"I've learned of something terrible," the goddess whispered. "Ametis is missing. She has been for two days" This came as a thunderbolt to Horus who was angered upon hearing it.
Hathor linked her hand through her husband's hand and with her other free hand she touched his arm and patted it soothingly. "First Ihy has been captured and now Ametis is missing. Oh Horus, where could she have gone without informing us?"
The god wrapped his arms around his wife's slender shoulders and embraced her close to his body. On her head, he rested his chin, "no Hathor, Ametis is not missing."
This triggered a slight flinch in Hathor as she continued burrying her face sideways on Horus's bare chest. She ran a hand up his side and held onto his arm. "It's Kha...he took my children. My son and my daughter! How cou—" Hathor's voice trailed off as Horus kissed her forehead.
"Ra will help us, Hathor," he whispered before pulling away. "Though Kha is Egypt's enemy, he is still family and you cannot hate him for following in Set's footsteps. However the gods' anger will be upon him if he murders Ametis and Ihy."
Hathor turned a concerned look onto Horus, "how could Kha have taken her prisoner when she was just went around the enemy lines?"
"What did you say?" questioned Horus who paused from tightening a necklace around his neck and turned to her. Hathor raised her eyebrows and approached him slowly before she picked up his diadem and stood before him. The diadem laid flat on both her open palms and she lifted it to her husband's head. Hathor adjusted it and moved back to admire Horus. "She was around Kha's borders. Everyone knows Kha doesn't come out after dark. Is it possible he knew she was there because someone told him so and then he sent his sorceress after her?"
Frowning, Horus turned to her and shook his head, "no Hathor."
"Why do you say it is not so?"
Horus lifted his hand to his face and stroked his temples, "Hathor, no one was sent to scour the borders. Not a group of soldiers and definitely not my own daughter. If she did, it was without my permission and I will now see what Sebmet knows of this." Horus walked past her and and headed for the doors. He stopped and turned back to face his beautiful wife. "Are you accompanying me, my rose?"
Hathor snapped out of her daze and hurriedly took long strides towards Horus.
Upon reaching him, she looked at him and linked her arm through his, "there is something you should know. It was Shai and Nephthys who informed me incorretly."
   "Shai and Lady Nephthys?"
"Indeed." Hathor replied and retold her encounter with the awkward pair just the days before. They both exited the chambers and walked down the palace stairs arm in arm.
   "Summon the guards."

🌟🌟🌟🌟

   "I cannot believe this!"
"Calm down," Nephthys rolled her eyes.
They both stood on the stairs of the abandoned temple that lay between them and Kha's new border. Nephthys had dragged Shai to accompany her here. She believed Kha would return with Ametis today. Two days had passed. Today should be the day Kha returned with Ametis. He promised Nephthys.
The sun was high and raining heat down upon them. Shai collapsed down on the stairs and sat watching the border.
"Lady Nephthys, Kha is not coming!"
"If you cannot hold your tongue any longer, please depart. Do not talk down my son. He may be an enemy of Egypt but he never breaks his promises."
Shai groaned and shielded her face from the sun, "how do you still love him? He has enslaved all the conquered Kingdoms. And he is coming for us next."
"He is my youngest son. And with his older brother already with his own son, Kha is like my only child. My rebellious baby," she chuckled at the last sentence.
"Well your rebellious baby is nowhere to be seen," Shai mumbled with a mocking smile. Nephthys came to stand beside her and she raised her hand to hover above her eyes to shield the light. She gazed into the distance and saw shadows.
"Oh no, he here comes," she muttered and moved past Shai who stood up to follow. True enough, over in the distance were distorted shadows.
The moment of relief was short lived when far behind the two goddesses came the loud galloping of horses. Nephthys swiftly turned around and saw three chariots approaching. The one in the lead halted before them, and Nephthys took note of the guy in the chariot. He was dressed as an high official.
Pushing aside his rider, the man jumped down from the chariot. He was dressed in a long green robe that had gold sleeves. Around his waist was a golden waist belt and into the side of the belt was a papyrus scroll that he immediately pulled out and bowed before the two goddesses.
"Messenger Potrem," Nephthys nodded with a smile. "What brings you here?"
Extending his hand, Potrem handed Nephthys the scroll and raised himself off the ground to look at her. She opened the scroll and scanned her eyes over it carefully before looking up and sighing. She handed the scroll to Potrem and started walking towards a chariot. Her fists clenched and unclenched by her sides, as if she was harnessing enough power to destroy something.
"Nephthys?" Shai looked over with disbelief. "Where are you going? What about..." she trailed off when her eyes caught Potrem's green eyes. They held her gaze,  a strong icy look, and they seemed to say something along the lines of disgusting.
Potrem extended his hands to the goddess, "you both have been summoned to the Temple of the gods by King Horus. You have no choice in the matter but to follow."
With another look around the stretch of desert dunes and sands, Shai took Potrem's hand and he guided her to one of the chaiots. The rider bowed to her and wrapped his hands around the reins.
Behind him, Shai looked over to Nephthys with wide eyes and mouthed Kha's name. The other goddess shook her head and jerked her head towards Potrem, it would be impossible to meet with Kha if he was around, she seemed to say.
The riders yanked the reins and the horses started galloping in sync...away from the temple ruins, away from Kha.
Shai turned back and looked at the figure with sadness. Poor Ametis.

🌟🌟🌟🌟

"Where is she, Nephthys? Where is my daughter?" Hathor stood looking at her angrily. It had been a long session of talking and Nephthys was frankly bored by now. They had been escorted into the Temple by immortal guards and forced to stand before the present group of concerned deities. Sebmet was the first to speak his part and announce he had no idea of Ametis ever being asked to scour enemy border.
The air was thin and bland as dry papyrus. Shai was beside Nephthys, her head held high as if to remind the gods how extremely important she was to them.
Horus glared from where he sat on the throne and watched Hathor tear the room apart with only her voice.
   "I may be of assistance—"
"Quiet!" Someone in the crowd hissed at Shai. The turtle retreated to her shell.
Hathor looked hurt as she gazed from Nephthys to Isis who stood behind her; glorious in a beautiful light green dress held up at her shoulders by two straps. Her hair was flowing out under her crown.
Even though cloaked in beauty, the Mother of Egypt had a sad look on her face.
From her place beside Horus, Isis walked towards Hathor and Nephthys. She placed a hand onto Hathor's tense shoulders and whispered into her ear that she should go stand with Horus. The goddess reluctantly agreed and moved back. She was Queen but Isis is the mother of all Queens.
Isis reached out and captured Nephthys in a loving embrace. "Sister, I know you well and I understand you. You know that I would never go against you no matter what, because I know you do things for a reason. How hard that reason is to understand...you know I will."
Having her only sister whisper reassuring words into her ear made Nephthys happy. Isis was the only individual who could understand Nephthys without question.
"I—there is something you should know firstly," Nephthys ignored Shai's piercing gaze and lowered her voice. "It is about Kha and princess Ametis."
"Do you dare try to spawn lies to turn me against my grandchild?"
"No. Not at all, what I am to tell you will show you why...I did what I had to do. I am trying to ensure a future with your family as rulers of Egypt. The path is not easy and will take many risks, Isis."
Isis pulled away from Nephthys and nodded to her son, "Horus I need to have a word with Nephthys." This spun a chorus of murmurings in the crowd. Shai hurriedly slipped from the center of the room to stand beside Amiid.
Horus held up his hand and silence dawned upon the crowd. He nodded his approval to his mother who wrapped an arm around Nephthys and led her away from the room. Shai looked at Amiid and suddenly regretted it as he angrily huffed and shook his head at her.
   "Amiid," she almost whined.
"These are dangerous times, Shai. It is extremely important that you know where your loyalties lie. Out of everyone, there is only a few individuals that chose to be neutral. But being neutral could create further problems," he looked over to where Isis and Nephthys were conversing.
   "I understand."
"Then where is Ametis?" Asked a calm voice behind Amiid. He turned around and found the Nubian goddess standing behind him.
"Lady Sanhir," Amiid lowered his head in respect. Sanhir respectfully returned his bow and looked at Shai.
"Part of the reason my father sent me here was to make sure Egypt's priorities are aligned with Nubia's. In other words, Egypt must remain unscathed after the war. We all know how much Egypt and Nubia need each other."
"True, so you will help defeat Kha alongside Egypt?" Shai asked.
Sanhir sighed, "I have no sides. But the resources from Egypt need to be governed by a reasonable ruler that will ensure the relationship between Nubia and Egypt to be prosperous. That ruler is obviously not a son or kin of Set."
At the last sentence, Amiid nervously cleared his throat. Sanhir quickly took note and apologized to Amiid, "that was not intended. But we all know your father Anubis rules the underworld so he couldn't possibly want to rule Egypt. Nephthys loves the family of Osiris just as her own and you are just...Amiid. Kha is the only one who is a threat."
"Yeah," muttered Amiid. "I feel special."
Sanhir smiled before turning back to Shai with her dark grey-golden eyes. "As I was saying, I do not take sides but for Nubia I can assist Egypt." She paused and looked away, "wherever the heirs of Egypt are we must and will find them."
Shai glanced away and forced a smile as her gaze landed on Amiid. She was worried upon hearing Sanhir talk about finding the heirs. Ametis and Ihy were both with Kha.
Starring off into space, Sanhir raised her eyebrows and muttered, "besides, Ihy owes me a fleet of ships," before she frowned and walked off leaving the god and goddess confused.
They continued bickering quietly back and forth about Ametis's whereabouts. Shai bluntly restating over and over she had no idea of the matter while Amiid kept pursuing her arguments. This went on for a while before everyone's attentions shifted back to the approaching goddesses.
