Her body submerged under the water and later resurfaced. Ametis placed her hands onto her head and wringed out her black hair. She let her fingers trail across the water and dragged patterns on it's surface. Even if this was probably her last bath, she was grateful to wash away the filth of the last days.
Footsteps approached and Ametis turned around to see Kha walking in calmly, and as he had said, in his hands were clean garments. Ametis kept her eyes on him as he paid her no attention and walked over to the daybed.
She watched as he approached the daybed to find her dress lying on it. He stood for a moment looking at it before he made his mind to move it aside all the while whilst clenching his jaws. Kha placed her new clothes on the daybed and sat down. He was no longer in his armour.
    Ametis froze.
He was sitting there! How could someone have a bath while they are being watched over?
She could feel his eyes burning into her bare back as she stood there.
   "Could you be less obvious?"
"You're my prize. I can do whatever I want...besides, if I trust you any further, you can even play the fool's card to escape from here," came the firm answer.
She sighed and continued bathing; all the while making sure her body from the chest downwards was submerged under the water.
She turned to the side of the pool.
"It is to your right," Kha stated before getting on his feet and walking over to the edge of the pool. He crouched down beside Ametis's figure and handed her the basket with the bathing essentials. "You need to dry off first."
Ametis gulped down nothing. This was stupid! She was fearful of drying down in front of Kha than she was in a raging battle where death was sure. She nodded and he walked away.
"I brought this just in case," he said making her turn around to see he held a light green shawl in his hands. "Here, wrap yourself around and come out."
Ametis grabbed the shawl from Kha and wrapped it around her body. It hugged her figure close and outlined her body but it was better than walking out naked. She started swimming to the steps and she made her way up, careful not to slip.
Kha held out a towel for her, his eyes trying so hard to avoid looking at her figure. He turned his head to the side as Ametis dropped the shawl and let him wrap the towel around her.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked helping him tighten the towel in place.
Kha sighed, "I honestly don't know. But I know I cannot ignore the fact you're here."
"I'm your prisoner," Ametis turned to face him. "Why not kill me?"
Kha stared into her dark golden eyes with his identical ones, "maybe Ra has other plans for us. I cannot be certain."
Ametis looked away, "I would prefer death to whatever Ra wishes."
Kha cleared his throat and handed her her new clothes. "Get dressed quickly. I will only allow you the time required, then I will come back—I do not care if you're still bare by then."
Ametis's eyes grew wide but before she could say anything, Kha walked out leaving her alone. She quickly pulled the green and gold silk dress over head and adjusted the waist belt. She disliked how it formed a long V shape in the front where it stopped at the middle of chest. Other than that, the dress was beautiful and it reminded her of her mother Hathor--wherever and however she was.
True to his words, Kha returned and stopped by the entrance to look at her.
"You are so beautiful," he whispered unexpectedly to his own surprise. Ametis forced a tiny smile.
"I do not know why you are doing this, Kha but I thank you."
Kha nodded before accompanying her out of the bathing area and back into the chambers. He led her to the one adjacent his own and closed the doors behind them.
"Your chamber. I need to keep you directly under my care, so you will wake here and you will dine with me in my chambers. Before you even think of escaping--do not. I will always be a step ahead of you when you're in my care."
   "Will I see Ihy whenever?"
"If he desires the same and is not busy with the whores of Egypt," muttered Kha capturing a shocked expression from Ametis.
She raised a hand to her mouth is disgust and stared, "whores? Is that how you've kept him in place--gave him harlots?"
Kha shrugged, "it is not my place to speak in behalf of your brother. He is enchanted so you must not blame his actions."
   "But...whores!"
"He is a man," Kha seemed to be entertained by the conversation.
"He is supposed to be my betrothed!"
They both stared at each other before Ametis broke down in laughter. She leaned against the bed frame and laughed hard as Kha watched her with a handsome smile forming on his face.
"Kha," Ametis calmed down but a smile still lingered. "Do you have a sister?"
"I do not think so. At least I do know there is no female born from Nephthys and Set. It was only Anubis and me," he responded.
"Do you have a bride then?" Asked Ametis staring at him with her piercing eyes.
"I have...Nawete," he nodded. "But she is far from being a bride--my bride."
Ametis nodded understandingly before her stance faltered and she fell to the cold floor. Kha immediately rushed over to her side and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, as he held onto her he felt her body shake, "Do you have a fever?"
   "Don't say that. I am a goddess!"
"Well, you are so weak...I can feel your strenght. Go to bed, I will have the servants deliver dinner here."
"Why are you being so nice?" She turned her head until her face was inches away from Kha's.
He looked at her, examining her entire face, "I told you I believe Ra has something else in store. I feel obligated to you." Slowly and cautiously, Kha lifted another hand and trailed it into Ametis's dark wet hair.
She flinched slightly, however she made no move to protest against him and instead she leaned into his hand. The goddess closed her eyes.
"I blame myself for your weakened state."
"Don't," she whispered. "If you had not done so...I wouldn't be here with you."
With that, Kha stood up and lifted Ametis's figure into his arms--bridal style--and carried her to the bed. He placed her on the bed with a hand on her back to stop her from touching the sheets before he pushed the feather cushions and pillows up into a comfortable position for her.
Murmuring quietly to himself, he held up her frame and carefully placed her onto the many pillows and cushions.
   "Ametis?"
   "Mmmm..."
"I have to go see the servants about your dinner. I trust you to not do anything irrational while I'm gone," Kha touched her cheeks lightly.
"I wouldn't dare to," came the sleepy reply before Ametis drifted into a slumber.
    Reluctantly Kha left her side.
