Chapter 4 ~ Leaving Ohio

Andy was packing his bag, my stuff already packed and in his old car, as he woke me up at six in the morning with a million texts stating: Today’s the day! Get packing!

He however, didn’t get up himself and was a late-starter after having to make coffee.

Andy’s hair had grown out into a long shag and he had a lip piercing on his right lip, his nails were painted black –thanks to me- and he even wore eyeliner –that was a tough lesson-. Andy looked like a real rock star. His hair was teased with a black bandana around his forehead and he had on a black leather jacket with a Kiss shirt on, and black skinny jeans, avoiding taking his belt with a lot of metal.

“So, you say girls take so long?” I ask filing down my nails.

“Shut up, Desrae.” Andy smiled as he continued packing.

After a few moments of nothing but faint background of Montley Crue, a question bubbled up inside me.

“What does… Scout think of this?”

Andy paused his packing and looked up at me. I immediately regretted asking.

“She’s not really okay with it. But it’s not like she’s gonna stop me, she’s being selfish.” Andy said, looking back down at his folding and zipped up the bulging bag.

“Oh…” I say uneasily.

Andy’s parents weren’t thrilled to see Andy taking off to go to Hollywood with his best friend to meet up with a producer, after all we didn’t have much more of a band other than Andy and I. Although they weren’t happy, they still supported him and bought the tickets.

Chase wasn’t close with Andy and I anymore, as after graduation started, Chance immediately went off to college, leaving us behind, having minimal contact. Chance & Andy was coming to a crash and burn.

Andy had started going out with Scout Taylor and was deeply in love with her, they were very close and although she was thinking selfishly of Andy’s dreams, I knew she’d come to her senses.

Andy growled, getting frustrated that the suitcase wouldn’t shut. I rolled my eyes and pushed him aside, sitting on the packed bag and zipping it up.

“There.” I say with an impish smile.

Andy nodded and smiled lopsidedly as I got off and helped him move his stuff downstairs and waited in the car as Andy told his parents goodbye.

I had told my mother goodbye when I left, I didn’t have to tell my father goodbye, because I did in second grade, the same year I met Andy. Andy had been the ‘man’ in my life, but he’d also secretly been my crush too.

I envied his perfection and I did love him. Seeing him dating others, and have no idea for my true feelings was heart-wrenching, but I was his best friend, one of him main supports, and I couldn’t ruin that. So I just kept to myself, nobody knew about this.

Andy’s mother had begun crying as Andy told her goodbye and hugged her tightly. Andy’s dad watched, I saw a glint in his eyes; secretly he was proud that his son was chasing his true dream. He was just too stubborn to show it, just like Andy too stubborn to show he was scared.

Soon Andy climbed into the car, watching his mother sob into his father’s arms as he led her back inside and I looked at him as he took a shuddering breath. My look saying  ‘are you okay?’

Andy nodded and turned to me. “Hollywood we go.”
