Chapter 9 ~ Torn

Desrae

“No, no, no! Ashley be nice, be nice!” I giggle as I run around the house with one of Ashley’s cowboy hats on.

“Give it back!” He hissed playfully as I ran up the stairs, he stayed at the base scowling and smiling impishly below me.

“How about no?” I laugh and look over the banister at the cluttered couch below. I had to start cleaning this place up soon, for Ashley’s sake.

“Don’t you even think about that.” Ash said following my gaze and crept up the stairs.

I knew if I ran into one of the rooms I’d be pinned and have to give this glorious black Stetson back, but then again…

I climbed up on the banister just as Ashley began scrambling up the stairs, more worried about me than his hat now but I jumped anyways, leaving a breathless Ashley behind as I free-fell a short distance, rolling onto the couch with ease, just barely missing a startles Tokyo. I pet th4e dog as Ashley folded over the banister with relief.

“Desrae… you’re an idiot. Just saying.”

“Ouch, tough talk to your new house maid.” I say looking up at him and smiled.

Ashley rolled his eyes. “Now c’mon Des, I need to go get that tattoo done!”

Ashley was getting a rather big tattoo done across his stomach, one he’d been wanting to get for a long while, but hadn’t. With the new money from the music videos we were shooting, he decided this would be his ‘big blow’ with his money.

“Fine, Purdy.” I groan, getting up and meeting him at the base of the stairs.

I hand over his hat and he smirks triumphantly as he puts it on his head and secures his leather jacket around him.

“I still don’t get why you need a hat to go get a tattoo.” I said just before he turned to open the door and leave.

“Well… it’s a lucky hat, let’s just put it at that, and when I come back, you’ll get it.” Ashley said smiling and tipping his hat to me. “I’ll see you soon, and bring back food.”

“Sounds good to me!” I say and wave at him as he closes the door behind him, leaving me alone in the house with the mess, and two dogs.

I sighed and turned on some music, not the bad music of today, but instead I put in a Korn CD, rocking out to their music as I began cleaning the house, and going through my feelings.

It hadn’t been very long I’d been with Ashley Purdy, but I seemed to feel something, and I thought Ashley was returning this feeling. I felt as though I was falling for Ashley now as well, I must have imagined it but I thought he was giving hints that he liked me too, or he was just being the older brother figure he’d always been.

I fell in love too fast.

Andy and I never chased each other around, Andy and I never sat down together close and watched some stupid cartoons. Andy and I had always been spaced away from each other, maybe it was better that I was gone, I think he knew I liked him, and he was sending signals that he didn’t like be back.

I had been sweeping the same spot for several minutes as I sorted my feelings of Ashley and Andy and looked down, one spot down, a million others to go.

I wiped my mind and to help I blasted Kiss out of the stereo as loud as it would go and that kept my mind occupied as I walked around singing the lyrics into the broom and sweeping the place up, going to impress Ashley for his kindness in letting my stay.

I didn’t revisit those thoughts for the rest of the day.
