This is in Matthew's point of view.
The crowd went silent. I was freaking out. My head was spinning. This can't be happening. Come on Annie get up. I was hoping that she could mentally hear me. Coach whatever her name was ran over to Annie and said "Can you get up?" Annie just simply shook her head.
When she did that I knew something was seriously wrong with her, because Annie is a pusher, a true athlete, so I ran down to the court from the bleachers to where Annie was, picked her up off the court, and sat down with her in my arms on the sidelines. I couldn't let her see that I was so scared for her so I put on a brave face and said, "Nice hit. You just won the game for us tigers."
I could tell she was in some serious pain because she wouldn't talk. So instead she just squirmed around to the point that see could see a few of the players from Peter's County crying. With a smirk on her face she said, "I sure kicked some butt out there."
When she got enough courage to see what was wrong she looked up at her knee to find that it was 3 times the size of her other knee and screamed an eardrum shattering scream. She was hyperventilating now. Oh my God. What do I do?
"Annie, Annie. Calm down. Calm down, baby. You will be okay. I've got you."
This isn't working. She can see the fear on my face now. The doors open and two paramedics rushed in with a stretcher.
Before I handed her over to them I kissed her on the forehead and said, "I love you Annie May Williams. Don't forget that." And she blacked out.
The paramedics got her settled on the stretcher and ran to the ambulance. I followed behind them, running like my life depended on it. They rolled her into the ambulance, and finally asked who I was. I tried to stay calm but I couldn't. I slowly responded, "I'm Annie's boyfriend, Matthew." Both of the paramedics went to ask Annie something just to find that she was unconscious.
One of them ran into the ambulance and the other one quickly said, "Just meet us at the hospital." I nodded my head and ran back into the gym to grab Annie's things to find that Claire had all of her things in her hands. She said, "Take her phone and her lucky locket. I'll take the rest to her house." I grabbed what she told me to and ran to my car.
I drove as fast as the law allowed to the hospital. As I drove at least a billion thoughts were running through my head, but the one that came to me the most was, what if Annie can never play volleyball again? She would be devastated, was the obvious answer. Annie has loved volleyball since we first met in kindergarten. She can't give it all up now. But if the doctor says she has to she has to. I pulled into the hospital and ran into the waiting room. I was told that Annie was in the ER right now and I would be informed of when I could see her. I went and sat down in one of those very uncomfortable waiting room chairs and did what you were supposed to do in a waiting room, wait.
