This is in Matthew's point of view, and it does contain mature themes. Keep that in mindwhile reading. Thank you!
As I drove home from practice, which let out 30 minutes early, thank God!
I thought about how I feel really bad about not meeting Annie and asking her to prom today like I was supposed to, but I needed to get home before my dad so he wouldn't find another excuse to beat me, and the sooner practice started the sooner it got out.
I'm so sick of him but I can't say anything at the same time because I'm so scared of him. All he does is get drunk come home and beat me and my mother.
We should have left a long time ago, but I begged my mom to stay so I could continue seeing Annie everyday. She means the world to me. I wish that we could be more than just friends, but I don't know how she would feel about that.
I pulled into the driveway and I saw my dad's rusty red pickup truck. Great. I try to walk into the house as quietly as possible, but he still managed to hear me.
He walked over to me and slurred out the words, "You are a disgrace to the Collins family name, boy." He spat all over my face. I wish I could stop this but I'm afraid for my life. "Do you know what happens to disgraces?" He paused. "They get punished." He ordered me to take off my shirt and turn around.
He proceeded to grab a belt and swing it at me, hitting me more than I would like to admit.
The only way I get through this every night is thinking of Annie and how much I wish we were together. My lower back stung. I had to hold back the tears or this would go on for much longer. He finally let me go and I ran straight to my room never turning back, thinking of Annie the whole way there.
