This in in Matthew's point of view.
By now it was 8:30 at night. I have been here for two hours. I can't go see Annie. I can't do anything but sit here and wait. I feel like I'm trapped in this terrible waiting room with fear for Annie. I still haven't managed to calm myself down. I've cried uncontrollably for the last two hours. Now I'm to the point where I physically can't cry anymore. So now that I've gotten all the tears out of the way I'm hungry.
I shove my hand into my pocket to find Annie's lucky locket. She's had this since 1st grade. It has a gold chain and an openable heart on the end. I wonder what's so lucky about it. I open the little heart to find the picture of us in kindergarten with shaving cream all over our faces on the right side. That day we had to throw shaving cream pies in our teacher's face for some reason, but we just ended up throwing it at each other. And on the left side was the picture of us after our first games on the varsity baseball and volleyball teams during freshman year. The games were on the same night so we didn't get to see each other until after but we both won so we stayed back after everyone and had a celebratory dance party in the field behind Annie's house. It was so fun. I miss those times. After smiling like an idiot at the locket and remembering those times a doctor called me over to radiology to talk to him.
"Mr. Collins, I understand that you are Annie Williams' boyfriend." He said like he was hiding something from me.
I said, "Yes sir, that would be me."
"Matthew, I would like you to look at this x ray." He held up an x ray that looked just find I was so relieved.
"Ok that looked pretty good to me, so Annie's okay?" I said.
"No." My heart just dropped to my toes. "That was a normal knee with nothing wrong with it."
He held up another x ray that looked like it had to be broken into a million pieces. "This is Annie's knee." My jaw fell wide open. "She has shattered her knee completely and in order to fix it Annie must go through a total knee reconstruction surgery that usually lasts up to six hours, but we will not be able to preform this surgery on her until she is conscious." This guy is killing me.
"Wait, so she still isn't awake?" I questioned as another doctor walked into the room.
The doctor that just walked in said, "Doctor Evans, Annie is awake." I sighed I sigh of relief as I walked back to the waiting room.
