I awoke this morning to a bright, yellow sunshine outside my window. The birds were chirping, and I just felt extremely happy.
I climbed out of bed, put my slippers on and walked into the bathroom where I began to brush my teeth and comb my hair.
After what seemed like an hour in the washroom (it was only 15 minutes), I ventured back into my room where I was pondering what outfit I should wear for the day.
It was May, almost the end of the school year. I went to a public school, so we had no uniform, or religion classes, and we were going to high school next year.
I decided on grey capri cotton shorts, along with my fitted baby blue graphic tee.
I observed myself in the mirror, looking at my one blue eye, and one hazel eye. I pulled my brown hair into a ponytail and headed downstairs.
When I reached the bottom, I journeyed into the kitchen where I began to pack my own lunch. I put my water bottle, turkey sandwich, and brownie into my lunch bag , and put it inside my shoulder-bag.
I heard a honk all of a sudden, and realized the school bus was out front. I opened the closet door, wondering which shoes I should wear today.
Should I wear my black converse, or my vans? I thought to myself. I decided on my black converse, and began to put them on my feet.
"Bye mom! See you later!" I called out from the foyer.
"Bye honey, see you later." She called back.
I finished putting my shoes on, grabbed my shoulder-bag, slung it across my upper-chest, and opened the door to leave.
The sun hit me right in the face as soon as I stepped outside. I closed the door behind me and made my way to the bus.
The bus doors opened as I was greeted by Vanessa, the driver.
"Morning Julia!" She cheered as I stepped into the bus and looked around.
"Morning Vanessa, how're you today?"
"I'm doing pretty good, yourself?"
"Great right now, we'll see how the day progresses."
She smiled as I made my way to the back of the bus, where I was greeted by some of my best friends.
There was Michaela, the quiet-but-can-be-loud, outgoing one. She was the one who acted tough but didn't do much. She was around 5'6, and had dark brown eyes and hair. She was wearing black yoga pants and a turquoise, "ain't nobody got time for that" shirt.
"JULIAAA!" She screamed as I sat beside her.
We had these nicknames for each other. I was shrub and she was banana.
"Hey there banana"
"What's good shrub?"
"Can you believe we only have a month and a few weeks left of school?"
"Honestly I can't, it's crazy"
"JULIA WHY DIDN'T I SEE YOU!" I heard from the other bus seat beside me.
I turned my head and saw my other best friend, Brianna, sitting beside another friend, named Bruna.
Brianna was the loudest out of them all. If someone messed with her, she wouldn't be afraid to tell them where to go. She was dark-skinned, around 5'2 (my height) and had cornrows in her black hair. She wore blue ripped jeans and a white fitted shirt with a heart-shaped cutout at the back.
