Chapter 08

"Oh sht. Fck."

"Why? What is it, Daf?" Lowiee immediately pulled over to the side of the road.

They were almost near the mansion when Dafnhie suddenly remembered something.

"My bag. I forgot my bag." And that's when Lowiee also noticed that Dafnhie's bag was missing.

"Sht. You're right."

They both froze for a moment. It was likely that Dafnhie had left her bag at the park. She had dozed off in the car due to exhaustion, so she hadn't noticed the missing bag until she tried to grab her phone and realized both it and the bag were gone. The drive back to the province had taken over two and a half hours.

"It's already 12:30. I'll inform Mom that I can't make it to lunch. I'm already late anyway. Do you want to go back?" Lowiee asked, glancing at her.

"No. No. It's fine. I'm not sure what to do, but I'll figure it out. I'll just buy a new phone for now. I'm not sure if my bag is still there. Maybe someone already picked it up."

"Right, not impossible since it's Lana Marks."

Napa tingin si Dafnhie sa lalaki.

"You know about that brand? Didn't know that you-"

"I know about it because I gifted Mom once for her birthday. It's not because of what you're thinking."

Mapang inis na tumango ang babae na parang sinasabi na hindi sya naniniwala.

"I'm not a homophobic but I'm not one okay?"

"If you say so... To be honest I don't care about my bag or phone, I can also cancel all my cards and I can just ask someone to process and get me new IDs but my grandma's heirloom is in there."

"An heirloom!? You carry it with you? Is it your Grandma on your mom's side?"

"No. She's the mother of the old man. And it's a rosary that's why I carry it around. But it is made of diamond. But I don't care what it is made of. It's an heirloom that's why it's important."

"I get it. I'll call Mom now so we can go back."

"No. I'll ask someone else. It's fine. But can you call my phone first?"

"Sure."

"..."

"Cannot be reached."

"Sht."

"Feel at home, sweetie. It's been so long since I saw you," Susie said with a smile, giving Dafnhie a kiss on the cheek.

"It's nice to see you again, Ninang," Dafnhie replied, her tone warm but quiet.

"Yes! And oh my gahd, ang laki-laki mo na! Sobrang ganda pa! The last time I saw you was—" Susie immediately clamped her mouth shut as she realized what she almost said.

The last time they saw each other was after Dafnhie's mother's funeral.

Susie cleared her throat and quickly changed the subject, "By the way, you two must be hungry. C'mon, let's eat."

"I'm glad you two are getting along," Susie said, smiling as they all dug into their lunch.

Dafnhie gave a shy smile, feeling the warmth of the moment but still slightly uneasy.
