Chapter 11
"Both of you are grounded!" Dani said firmly.
Lowiee looked shocked.
"What? Me too!?" He turned to his parents, who were already glaring at him.
"Yes, you too," Louis said.
"But this is all Dafnhie's fault!"
The girl immediately turned her head so fast they all thought she'd get a stiff neck.
"I thought it was your fault? Remember? You said if you hadn't agreed—"
"Wait. Wait. Wait. That's only because we were already in that situation! And no one said there'd be a whole 'grounded' segment happening!"
They were all currently at the Angeles residence.
After the two had enjoyed a surprisingly pleasant lunch earlier at the church, the heavy rain and strong winds had somewhat subsided. So they decided to head back. Not far from the town of Sta. Rita, they ran into a few vehicles—some of which were carrying bodyguards from both the Angeles and Dela Vega families. Turns out they had been on the road since last night trying to fetch them after Lowiee told his Ninong Dani where they actually went. But the guards got stuck in the flood too, so they couldn't make it until now.
As for Dafnhie's father, he had just managed to book a flight back from Singapore earlier that day. Dani called both of them into his office, where Lowiee's parents were already waiting.
"Mom, Dad, nothing happened. I took care of Dafnhie, and myself. We're both safe and sound—"
"Enough with the excuses," Louis interrupted. "You're both grounded until Saturday night."
"And Dafnhie, you're not allowed to go back to that place," her father added. She frowned at him.
"What are we, fourteen? We're in our early twenties. And why can't I go back there? You can't just—"
"If you still want to go outside this house at all, you'll do as I say. I don't care if you stop going to university, Dafnhie. You're not going back there." He spoke firmly and then walked out of the office.
The couple followed him, but Louis paused at the door.
"Let's make it until Sunday night."
"NOOO!" Lowiee shouted, but they ignored him and walked away.
That left the two of them alone in the office.
"Damn. We have a car race Sunday night!" Lowiee muttered.
"Shut the f*ck up, Justinsht... Didn't you hear what the old man said? He basically threatened me not to ever go back there."
Lowiee paused.
"You're right. Maybe he was just super worried about you? Didn't you see how stressed Ninong Dani looked? Maybe he's just scared you'll go back there alone without anyone to help you. To be honest, even I have no idea what's going on inside your head. You're impossible to predict."
"Or maybe... there's something there he doesn't want me to find out."
Lowiee blinked. For some reason, her words instantly reminded him of the nun who had spoken to him earlier.
"Let's not think about that right now, okay? We don't have plans to go back there anyway. Just help me figure out how I can sneak out to join the race."
Dafnhie just gave him a glare and stomped hard on his foot before walking out of the room.
