GAME DAY

Saturday, February 28th

The loud chatter of the girl's locker room put me at ease. I know it sounds strange, but noise calms me. I pulled the short, ruffled, skirt up to my thighs.

"...and then she told me that Nikki Bradman stole Chad Trills from her and then she was looking for ways to..." Caroline chatted away.

I didn't mean to, but I began to tune her out. I was usually able to pay attention to her mindless gossip. But today, I was too nervous to filter out her garbage. I don't usually get nervous but I felt extra pressure because since word got out that I'm from Swathmore, practically the entire school wouldn't mind if I fell off the top of the pyramid. Just then the cheer captain and the cheer leader walked in.

"Alright ladies, let's line up and get out there! Everybody tighten your ponytails and put on your last coat of tanning lotion so we can get out there already!" Vanessa Briggs, the cheer captain, ordered.

"Also, make sure that your bow is in the correct position on top of the pony. I'm looking at you Brianna," Kelsey, the cheer leader, barked.

We all followed their vivid instructions and sprinted onto the field.
