Chapter 35
"Go." I tell Tony.
"Kid, you don't look alright."
"I'm not alright; actually, I'm dying, Tony. My heart hasn't beaten in a minute or so, and my livers failing. I'm going to die." I'm becoming self aware, I can feel everything; my sky high temperature, my kidney stopped filtering blood.
He sets me in a (oddly familiar) clearing of trees. The snow under my bare feet is crunchy but pure. I use the last bit of my adrenaline to stay standing before Tony.
"I'm taking you back."
"No, you have to leave. I'm still drawing in energy, you're just making it worse. Your suit uses a lot of power and I'm going to drain it soon. Go. Now!" I yell at him as blood starts to dribble out of my nose.
He goes to a close by tree, puts something on it, then takes off. I feel my heart start to beat again. Tensing up, I hold in the oncoming energy surge, wanting to give Tony time to get safely out if the range of danger. But then again, I have no idea what that is.
I hold on for another heart beat, it hurts so bad I yell and fall down. A loud buzzing noise pulses in my head, I clutch my ears because it's so loud. My heart beats again and no matter how hard I try, I feel some of the power in me surge out; then back in as blood weakly moves in then out of my heart.
It happens again, the blue tinted energy synchronizes with my heart beat. One beat. The snow within three feet of me melts. Two beats. The closest trees shake. Three beats. Wood splits.
By the fourth beat, I'm not longer able to hold it in. Curled up in a ball all alone on the ground, I let it go. My heart beats one final time and I just let it.
Light blue energy shoots from me in a perfect circle. The loss of power feels like a sudden loss of blood. I try to stand up, but I don't have the strength.
Then I see what Tony put on the tree. It's a camera, probably because they'll want to examine the footage. Probably because they'll try to learn from it and try to teach me. Probably because they think I'm going to live.
In the camera, I catch my refection and my eyes focus sharply on the small lens. My hair is matted on my face with sweat. Blood runs down from my mouth and nose. I look like Hell.
A bright light behind me catches my eye, and I know. Turning, I can see the wings. I whisper that I'm sorry to the camera, then feel it. I can feel my soul leave my body.
From there, I stand and walk to the angel. It's not Cas, but still it feels familiar. Upon closer inspection, it's me. These are my wings, the same gold white and blue feathers. It's the same way I looked when Cas told me everything.
Stepping into it, the light engulfs me. I look at my body one last time and see it fall over, dead. I'm not sad, just a little indifferent, actually. With that, I push my wings hard down, and take off. At that same time the final, and most powerful energy wave bursts from my body.
I let my instincts guide me from then on. Peaceful and quietly, I fly, no longer worrying about what life would have brought me.
