The First conversation

"Arthur." The woman's hands were blood-soaked, it turned to be that she was all blood-soaked. Her head was spinning crazily in both directions . She was calling out after him, fear and coughs taking over her voice.

She seemed to be inside a wrecked car, the car was turned upside down . Smoke fumes clouded around the woman's head that touched the hard ground. The car was actually on fire. That explained the coughs.

Her lips quivered hard trying to call for him again but she was calling for ashes. Ashes!!

Megan was panting hard, she checked the time on her phone with her hands placed on her pounding heart keeping it in it's place. Through squinted eyes, the blinding illuminated screen proclaimed: 5:40 am.

It wasn't the first time that a nightmare wakes Megan up, but it wasn't something frequent either. She tried to think about anything amusing, she thought about Issac.

God! she thought. Thinking about Issac wasn't amusing, besides it's more likely she will have nightmares again because he wasn't related to anything good at all.

She inhaled and wrapped her arms around herself tightly letting the covers hug her body. She didn't like the weather at dawn, she didn't like the cold breeze that smelt like dawn. It was never attatched to good memories. She looked at her windows and stared through the grey sky that she didn't like either .

For a moment, she questioned if she had given her grandmother the medicine, then she quickly remembered that she did.

Megan had to make sure that she always gave her grandmother the medicine on time because she'd never ask her to. She never asks Megan for anything.

"The chemicals attack the living cells slowly. It's like that.." The doctor tried to search for the simplest words that 16-year-old Megan could comprehend back then. "It would hurt her on long terms." Megan later discovered that it doesn't hurt her only, it kills her.

"Of course." She laughed at her stupid younger self. The doctor said back then it kills the living cells and the medicines just hinder the chemicals movements but never stop them. She would not survive.

In 2016, two years ago, she searched and studied the chemicals secreted in her grandmother's body and realized that the alcohol percentage is the cause of destroying the cytoplasm and it's never mentioned that it's completely curable.

God! How long has she been living that? The thought brought a couple of hot tears in her eyes. She rubbed her face briefly, like she would wash away the thoughts.

Megan wished she could find the medicine herself and present it to her grandmother, but she didn't believe it was something she could do.

Megan's mind ran around in circles, that's what she hates about waking up in the wrong time.

She finally got herself up to the bathroom. She knew it was already time to get ready for work, thinking didn't make her sense the passing time.

She brushed her short brown hair and took a quick look in the mirror. She can't precisely remember the last time she wore her hair long.

Old Rosie could hear the jiggling of Megan's keys but she never wanted Megan to think that she wakes up early, too.

When the engine of Megan's car announced her departure, she laid her head on bed and went back to sleep.

She considered it as an instinct, she wakes up when Megan does and sleeps when she feels she's safe or things are going as they should.

                      ************

It was already late. Megan's eyelids felt so heavy, she spent hours in front of her laptop, always squinted at the millimetres scale of beakers and wrote down notes all day.

"Aren't you coming over?" Sasha yawned at Megan while she prepared herself to leave.

"I'll stay for a while." Megan pretended to be busy in front of her laptop when her eyeballs never left Isaac's place.

Sasha looked briefly at Megan with suspect. "See you."

Once Sasha left, Megan's heart started beating hard announcing that it's finally time to start a conversation with Issac.

For five minutes, Megan was just walking back and forth. She wanted to get attention to speak.

Eventually, she decided it was finally time to talk, she is not going lo lose anything. Besides, thinking a lot before talking was something against her nature.

She has just opened her mouth when she was stopped by unexpected loud noise. For half a minute, she could swear it was just in her mind.

Issac suddenly walked- yes, he just walked - towards the window. Megan replayed the noise in her mind and when the noise was heard again, she realized they were gunshots.

She rushed towards the other window  with adrenaline boiling in her veins. She heard footsteps coming closer.

"Hide under your desk!" Issac simply ordered and she could sense it wasn't out of endearment. She never expected that the first conversation between them would be when four armed men break into the company.
