Chapter 2: The twist

As I was leaving the bakery, Jane stopped me and said to tell everyone to come later tonight; it was important. I nodded yes, and took my leave

Later, we were all at the bakery, and something told me this was not good. Jane walked in carrying the days newspaper. She looked close to tears. Everyone fell silent, and she read the headline,"Two Explorers Go Missing" she said. Everyone was thinking the same thing. She continued reading. "After explorers Jade Harley and Jake English go missing on a trip to the West Quarter, reports of a large storm that was found off of the coast of the East Quarter may have either sunken the boat or driven it off course, turning it towards the Mythical continent." She stopped there. Everyone knew that if you got stuck on the Mythical continent, you were as good as dead. "But it's Jade and Jake. They'll be back. Just you wait." I said, believing it to be true.

It's been a week, and there's no sign of either of them. Maybe they're already in the West Quarter but aren't able to contact us yet. I thought as I walked down to the port. But still, the worry was threatening to take over. Maybe I can just go and find them myself. Now, if you're me, you have a wild imagination and you tend not to think of future consequences. I thought it was a great idea and rushed home to pack. I didn't own much, just a few clothes, an Army knife, and my glasses. I looked in my bathroom mirror and took off my glasses. Without them on, my one weird trait stood out: my right eye was red like Dave's, but my left eye was blue like John's. I'd always hated it. It made me feel like I wasn't entirely human. I shook off the feeling and put my glasses back on. I then headed out for the docks, but not before leaving a note telling the others where I've gone. Once I reached the docks, I found a cargo ship headed for the West Quarter. I snuck on and waited to set sail.
