Chapter 12: Why are they here?

A/N this is still in third person

Dave woke up to pouring rain and booming thunder. All of the others were already awake and trying to stay on board. "How the hell did we sleep through this?!" He yelled as he found something to grab onto. "I have no idea, but I am starting to regret this decision!" Rose shouted back. The ship lunched again, threatening to capsize. "We need to get off of here! There's too much loose cargo flying around!" He yelled and started climbing up the rail. Everyone else followed. When he got to the life boats, he heard Dirk shout. "How is that any safer than our current situation?" "Would you rather get in the life boat or get crushed by loose cargo?" He shot back. "Good point!" Dirk replied as he helped the girls get in. Then John and Dave and then himself. The boat broke free of its ropes and splashed down on the water, dousing its already soaking crew. The raging waves carried them away from the now sinking cargo ship. As the time passed, the waters grew calmer and the rain and wind less powerful. Soon bits of sunlight made its way through the fading clouds. "Hey get ur asses up! I think I can see land from here!" Roxy shouted at the rest of them. All of them were instantly up and paddling towards it. When they reached it they all flopped down on the sand, happy to be back on solid ground. "We are never doing that again, Dave." Jane groaned. "Agreed." "So, what now?" "Head into the woods and hope for the best, I guess." Soon the group was walking into the nearby woods, unaware of what awaited them. John took out his phone again and tried messaging Cass. He was so happy it was waterproof.

AG: why're you asking me? Ask rose
EB: she says they're alternian hardwoods
AG: but those only grow on the Mythic continent
AG: John did you seriously try to follow me
EB: no! I came with the Striders, Lalondes, and Jane
AG: ok stay there I think I know where you are
EB: ok
AG: I mean it!
EB: ok! well stay put!

"Hey guys?" John asked the group as they moved forward. "I was talking to Cass and she said she'd come find us, but we had to stay put." When they heard this, they stopped and listened for footsteps.

~~~~POV CHANGE TO CASS~~~~

"Who're you talking to?" Sollux asked as I looked up from Dirk's phone and sighed. "I was talking to my friend John and apparently he and the others were being idiots and followed me and now they're lost somewhere in the forest by the shore." "Well let'th go get them, then." He followed me as we made our way down to find them. It didn't take long for us to hear them talking. I was suddenly hit with an idea.  "Psst! Sollux! Can you get me up into this tree? I'm gonna pull a prank on them." He saw where I was going with this. "Thure." He lifted me up high enough so that I could climb higher and move until I was directly over them. Three, two, one. I dropped from the branch right in the middle of their little circle they made. "BOOYEA LOOK WHOS BACK ASSHOLES!" They all screamed at the same time and jumped back. I fell to the ground laughing my ass off. As I got up I saw them realizing that it was me I was group hugged by them and Dirk swatting the back of my head. "Don't do that again, you little shit." I laughed, glad that they were back. "Oh! I want you guys to meet someone!" I rushed behind a tree and dragged Sollux out, easier said than done, though. "I'm coming, I'm coming, jeeth." He stopped when he saw the other kids' faces. "What?" "Cass, that's a Captor." Rose said cautiously. "Pretty sure I know that." I answered. "Captors are generally hostile and it doesn't make sense why you haven't been killed yet." "Wow ok. First, rude. Second, he's my brother." "How does that work?" Roxy asked, obviously interested. "Just, don't freak out, k? I can't really explain it, so I'll just show you. Don't freak on me." I reached to unclip my necklace, and as I slid it off my neck, I could feel myself changing from human to Captor. Not exactly an unpleasant feeling but not pleasant either. I didn't fall down this time, which was good. Sollux had been helping me practice moving around, and it was actually pretty easy. "C-Cass?" John asked in a hushed voice. "I don't really know how it workth. Probably thome kind of enchantment. But hey, at leatht you know why I have one red eye and one blue eye!" I said, smiling, showing an impressive dual pair of venomous fangs.  This must have freaked them out a little, because they took a step back. "Oh come on! You know I'd never hurt you guyth!" I sat there and huffed, but started when I felt someone touching my tail. "Roxthy, what are you doing?" "Wow it fells really wierd. Can I touch ur horns?" "Thure, but they're kinda thenthitive-" I stopped talking when she started rubbing my horns. I felt a rumble coming from my chest. Holy shit that feels good. "Cass, are you... purring?" "Yeth, the ith." Sollux said, snickering. "You... better... thuth..." I tried to say between purrs. "She's like a god damn cat." Dave said with a smirk on his face. "You... too... Mr... Thtrider..." "And a lisp too? Good lord that's adorable!" Jane squealed. Sollux looked up at the sky and saw that it was getting dark. "Hey, we thould be getting home. It'th getting dark. You guyth too."  He motioned for us to follow. "So how does it feel to be slithering instead of walking?" John asked as he came up beside me. "It wath weird at firtht, but you get uthed to it." "You're still the shortest one here." "Am not!" "Are too." I surged up until I was eye level with him. "Am. Not." I teased. "That doesn't count!" "Yeth it doeth!" "Alright, whatever." He smiled at me as I lowered myself. "You're very funny, Egbert." "Indeed I am." "I wath being tharcathtic." "I realize that." I giggled and hugged him from behind. I wrapped my tail around his waist and my arms around his shoulders. "Carry me." "Wow this is a weird setup, but ok. Wow you're still actually really light." "Whatever..." I said before dozing off.
