Stephen
"Basketball season is coming up, you excited?" Klay nudged me as we roamed the halls during open gym. That just meant the gym was open to anyone for anyone to play basketball. But since it was late, no one who here.
"Of course," I furrowed my eyebrows wondering why he would ask me that.
"You know the rookies are going to play with us right?"
"What?" I exclaimed. "They suck like shit."
"Well only a couple of them will play with us, maybe. And they don't, some of them are actually good," he informed.
"Really? Who?" I huffed rolling my eyes.
"Well there's D'Angelo, Devin Booker, and Ben Simmons," he said. "And then there's a senior who's going to join, we don't know who that is though."
"What about the seniors? Who's playing?" I asked and and went inside the gym. Taking a ball from the rack and shooting a three.
"DeAndre Jordan, Jimmy Butler, DeRozan, Kevin D., Dray of course, and I think that's it."
"And those are the people who made it?"
"Yeah, tryouts were this summer, remember?" He rose his eyebrow.
"Oh yeah, my bad." All I know is that we're gonna have a good team this year–like usual. Number one in the state. "It's gonna be a good year, like usual. Let's just hope these rookies can keep our game winning streak."
"For real, imma be pissed if they don't."
We turned around as we saw the door open, we waited for them to appear. Kyrie stepped inside and looked at us and then went into the locker room with his duffel bag. Klay and I looked at each other wearily.
"That's the new boy?" He rose his eyebrow.
I nodded my head, "Goes by Kyrie."
"And he's the new player?"
I shrugged, "I don't know."
Kyrie walked out. "Ay!"
He turned around and looked at us, "Oh, hey Stephen."
"You the new player?" I asked.
He nodded his head, "Yeah, transfer from Cleveland."
"That's nice," I gave him a small awkward smile. "We're just shooting, you can join if you want."
"Thanks, but I gotta go." He said and waved off.
"Hey, what position you play?" Klay yelled.
"Point guard!"
"Well damn, I'll be damned this year," I mumbled.
"You got competition."
"Nah shit," I replied. "Not a big one though, he's from Cleveland. Them Cleveland schools suck ass."
"You know that ain't true," Klay said. "He must've been really good if he made it, especially to be on our team. Coach judges you hard."
"Mhm," I mumbled.
Kyrie isn't going to be no competition to me. He's already messing with Morgan, the only other person I hang out with other than Klay, and now basketball? Fuck no, that ain't finna happen.
"You gonna hang out with Morgan tonight?"
"I don't know yet, probably."
"You like her?"
"Not like that, just friends," I sighed, growing annoyed with his question.
"You sure Steph? I see the way you be looking at her. You don't look at anyone like that."
