“What do you want?” I asked Kayden at the counter.
“No, I can buy my own,” she rejected.
“Well, either I buy it now or I’m going to stick the money in your pocket later. Your pick,” I told her truthfully.
She stood there for a second with a stubborn look before pulling out her money and ordering. Fine. I see where this is going. I ordered next.
“A venti crème brulee.”
I went to wait where Kayden stood holding her drink. On the side was her total and I don’t think she noticed it written there. 2.49. Once we had our coffee we went outside to sit. I could feel my sleeve pushed up and I pulled it back down.
I started tapping my foot and I nervously looked at her hands, “Why are you shaking?”
“Don’t worry. It’s just anxiety.”
I nodded and reached out to keep her hands still, “I guess we’re in the same position then,” I let go and she let out a deep breath.
She sat down and looked at the passing cars. Her brown hair was let down and it tumbled around her shoulders perfectly. I was compelled to hold her hand, but I didn’t want to scare her away or make her feel like I wanted anything from her. I’m cautious of what I do around girls like her because I don’t want to accidently lead them on. Sara gave me a new approach to that.
We would hold hands and make jokes, but I didn’t know what happened to her and she felt like sex was all I wanted from her. I don’t like the idea of that and I won’t make that mistake again.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
I fumbled with my fingers, “Like what?”
My eyes drifted back up to her and I felt myself smile slightly.
“Like that,” she laughed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I felt my face get warm.
“You’re blushing,” She smiled.
“Shut up,” I muttered, embarrassed.
“No, really, you’re cute when you blush with your ears and all,” she pointed out that my ears get red around the tips when I blush.
“Hey, you leave my ears alone.”
“You look like a cute little elf,” She grinned sarcastically.
“If I’m little then you must be a midget because I’m 6’ 1”,” I laughed at her.
“Haha, let’s make fun of me for being short.”
“You made fun of me,” I smirked.
I wonder if Dom’s still going to the skate shop today.
“Hey, do you like skate boarding?” I asked, grabbing her attention.
“Um, I like watching, but I always fall on my face whenever I try,” She replied awkwardly.
“I won’t let you fall. But, my buddy Dom wants to run to the shop and he wanted me to ask if you wanted to tag along.”
She gave me a nervous look.
“He’s gay. He won’t do anything.”
She just shrugged.
“I’ll take that as a yes?” I asked.
“I guess.”
