The day has finally come. I am heading to the Palace.
Annie and I have been talking constantly about everything and anything that has to do with the palace. This includes dresses, the prince, and secretly my most favorite part, the food. I don't know how I'll be able to fit into my dresses even after a week there. I guess I'll have to take up running or something.
The palace guards will be escorting me and my family to the airport at noon. As usual, Alessa and I slept in. I wake Alessa up at around 11:00 and start getting ready.
I put on the simple black dress that was given to me by the palace officials and braid my hair. After some begging, I braid Alessa's hair as well. After that I start packing.
I guess I won't have to bring any clothes.
I stuff my favorite pillow, some pencils, a sketch pad, and my most recent drawing of Checkers in a bag. After that I read a book while Alessa stares out the window.
As a black car arrives, Alessa yells, "It's HERE!" at the top of her lungs.
I grab my things and walk out the door with dad following close behind. Alessa has already run up to the car and entered.
I reach the car and go to open the door.
"No, miss. That won't be necessary," the driver says as he opens up my door.
Surprised, I mumble a quick thanks and get settled in.
I guess I'm going to have to get used to people doing things for me.My dad enters and closes the door. As we drive, Alessa is talking a mile a minute.
"-and you're going to have send a dress for me. Don't forget to write. Oh, and send pictures of the Prince! Do you know anything about him? His favorite color is green-" rambles Alessa. On and on and-
We finally reach the airport. I step out and see Annie waving at some people. I smile and start doing the same. I meet up with Annie and we hug each other.
Too soon it is time to say good-bye to our families.
I hug Alessa first. "You have to write at least once a week, ok? And I wasn't kidding when I said I wanted a dress." I pull back from the hug and smirk.
"Alright," I start, "I'll make sure you get one."
She smiles brightly and I go to hug my dad.
"You'll do fine," he whispers. "Remember, you are always a princess, no matter what anyone says."
"Thanks, dad," I respond with tears in my eyes.
I pull away and meet up with Annie. We walk up to the stage that is set up. The mayor then says some stupid speech about being honored to have two selected from Bonita, blah, blah, etc., etc., and then we are marching our way into the airport.
I turn around one last to look at my family and wave to them. I turn around and lock arms with Annie.
As we enter the airport, I see two girls chatting quietly. As we get closer, I identify them as Iris Charleston and Emmeline Jaxson.
Emmeline has blonde hair like Annie and sparkling green eyes. Iris has dark brown, almost black hair and dark blue eyes.
As we approach, Emmeline greets us with a bubbly hello. Iris just nods her head.
Annie says hello back with the same enthusiasm as Emmeline. I could tell that they would be friends.
"I'm Emmeline, but you can just call me Em!" exclaims Emmeline.
"My name is Annie and this is Victoria," Annie motions toward me.
"Hello," I say to Emmeline and Iris.
"Hello," replies Iris as she puts out her hand.
I shake it awkwardly and listen to what Annie and Emmeline are talking about.
"I can't believe that they messed up your selection forms," Emmeline says with an eye roll.
Annie shrugs. "It's not all bad," she responds. "At least Victoria and I know someone here," Annie says with a smile. I smile back.
"Are we waiting on someone?" I ask.
"Yes," Emmeline whispers. "Beatrice Clark. She's no rose compared to what I've heard."
I simply nod and let Annie and Emmeline converse. After a few minutes, I see, what I guess is Beatrice, strut in.
She approaches and smiles a fake smile at us.
"Do any of you have any idea when we are supposed to leave?" she asks with her fake smile still plastered on her face.
"Actually, awhile ago," I say with the same fake smile. "We were waiting on you."
For a moment, her smile fades, but she quickly recovers. "I can't help it if the crowds wanted to see me off," she says with a hair flip.
I glare at her and say, "Well, I'm sure keeping people waiting is not a characteristic the palace wants in its next princess," I retort.
Beatrice gives me a death stare. Before she can fire back another comeback, the palace officials come and collect us. We head towards the plane.
When we get inside, I see velvet seats, a snack bar, and a huge TV.
Annie and I take our seats near each other. Emmeline and Iris sit in the seats next to us. Beatrice mutters something about getting her "beauty sleep" and positions herself a couple rows up.
Annie and Emmeline talk quietly. Sometimes, I join in on their conversations, but most of the time I stare out the window.
We finally arrive at the palace. I try and take in all of it's magnificence. Annie, Emmeline, Iris, and I look at the palace in awe while Beatrice struts ahead of us confidently. I quickly break my gaze and follow her. I walk in and prepare myself for whatever lies inside the walls.
