Victoria's POV

The door is opened and I see America, King Maxon, and Liam. I try to stand up only to fall into Liam's arms.  My vision is going in and out and my throat is sore.

"Victoria! Are you alright?" Liam asks frantically.

I try to mumble a response but a choking noise is instead released from my voice.

"We need to get her to the hospital wing," the king says earnestly.

"Come on, my darling," Liam whispers to me before he picks me up.

He practically runs to the hospital wing, pushing over guards and maids to get there. We get to the wing and the doctors take me from his arms.

I try to mumble "no", but nothing comes out.

Why can't I speak?

I look at Liam with a worried face and outstretch my arms towards him. I shake my head and try to struggle from the doctors arms, but it is no use.

They lay me down on a hospital bed and close the door. They clean the wound on my head and take off the shackles that were on my hands. Apparently, I had managed to take the gag off, though I don't remember doing it. After they have checked up on me, the doctors step out of the room.

"Is she ok? What happened?" I hear Liam ask outside the door.

"She will be ok. She has a head injury that I think was caused by a blunt object. Her wrists are blistered and bloody, but should be fine in a couple of days," states the doctor.

"Why can't she speak?" questions Liam.

"She hasn't had food or water in two days, so it's very dry. She should be able to talk tomorrow or the next day after she gets some fluids in her," says the doctor.

"I want to see her," says Liam bluntly.

"I don't think tha-" starts the doctor.

"Now!" exclaims Liam.

"Yes, your Majesty," stammers the doctor.

I see the door open and in steps Liam. He has dark circles under his eyes due to lack of sleep.

"Victoria," he sighs and gives me a hug.

He pulls back and asks, "Who did this to you?"

I try to make sound come out of my throat, but nothing happens.

"Was it the rebels?" he asks.

I give a confused look and shake my head.

Why would he think it was rebels?

Now it's his turn to be confused.

"Was it a guard?" he questions.

I shake my head no.

"A maid?"

Another head shake. He starts thinking and I look at our hands. He has his laced through mine.

"Was it one the Selected?" he finally whispers.

I look up at him and see the desperation in his eyes. I slowly nod my head and look back down at our hands. As soon as I look though, it is pulled away. Liam stands up and runs his hands through his hair, anger is in his eyes. He looks back at me.

"You are sure?"

I nod my head. He immediately walks towards the door and exits.

I'm woken up by Annie and Emmeline. I open my eyes and see their worried looks. They both have dark bags under their tired eyes.

"Victoria!" cries Annie and embraces me in a hug. "You're ok," she sobs, "you're ok."

Annie pulls back and Emmeline gives me a bone-shattering embrace.

"Whoever did this to you is going to pay," she whispers in my ear. I give a weak smile.

They both sit down and ask me questions. They have to be "yes" and "no" questions that I can answer with my head because I can still not talk. They tell me that I had been missing for two days and that a rebel attack had happened the day I disappeared.

That's why they thought it was the rebels who put in the closet.

They also tell me that Liam called a meeting of all the Selected and informed them on what happened to me.

"No one admitted, though," says Emmeline with a defeated face.

"I overheard a guard talking to the prince. They say that the punishment will be ten years in prison," informs Annie with wide eyes.

I look down at my hands and play with my nails. I notice that my wrists aren't as red as they were before.

"Victoria," starts Emmeline, "do you remember who did it to you?"

I slowly lift my head up and nod.
