The other day I was reading this story where there was this girl descended from a powerful guy, but since she was a girl she was more powerful than her brother because of a sexist war that had happened over 1,500 years ago.
What a surprise.
I stopped reading the book after chapter 80 because she had the most perfect life--except for the fact that her friends got mad at her easily, her mother hated her, and her dad was in prison because of child abuse.
Oh, but let us not forget the fact that the OC could kill anybody by looking at them (if she wanted to, of course), she had the most perfect boyfriend, everybody wanted to be her/her friend, all the boys wanted to date her, and there was a villain trying to kill her because of what she was.
It seemed interesting at first, but then the story just seemed to drag on and on because she was a Mary Sue and her boyfriend supposedly made all her troubles go away by hitting the villain with a stick.
The OC's only flaws were her family life and her friends who got mad at her every once in a while.
I'm not reading your story if this is the only plot I'm gonna get.
I don't care if you want to make your character different than than rest of the crowd, just for the sake of making your character seem strong. A character doesn't need to be the Chosen One to have a strong personality.
When I hear somebody called the "Chosen One," it's obvious they're not gonna die AT ALL in a story. (As far as I know, Harry Potter is the only original Chosen One who actually does die).
Stop making your characters un-killable or perfect, because everybody will be able to tell what will happen. I recently finished reading the Percy Jackson series. It was suspenseful and interesting, but I knew exactly what was going to happen in the last book, because Percy Jackson seemed too perfect for me. The kid only went to summer camp 5 times in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but he automatically became good at fighting only because he was drenched in water during his first summer.
The only plot twist that I recall not seeing beforehand is when Kronos' spy in the last book was revealed.
