Ron and Hermione were supposed to be revising for their exams, which would finish on the day of the third task, but they were putting most of their efforts into helping Harry and I.
"Don't worry about it" Hermione said shortly, when I had pointed this out to them, and said we wouldn't mind practicing on our own for a while "at least we'll get top marks in defence against the dark arts, we'd have never have found out about all these hexes in class"
"I have something to tell you all" I said, sitting down on a nearby table "Malfoy and I are friends again"
"How did he come slithering back this time?" Harry laughed as he, Ron and Hermione joined me in taking a break.
"He asked me to be his girlfriend..."
"Ha" Ron scoffed "I would of loved to see the look on the little gits face when you rejected him"
"Oh" I began, my face heating up "I didn't reject him" my voice came out barely a whisper.
"What!" Harry exploded, standing up "this better be some sick joke!"
"Who put you in charge of who I date?" I raised my voice.
"I put myself in charge, since you clearly can't choose properly for yourself!"
I looked to Ron and Hermione who tried to reassure Harry that it wasn't a big deal, although Ron's face looked even more disgusted than Harry's.
"I've heard about his little reputation that he's got going on" Harry hissed "he's known as the 'Slytherin sex God'. Yeah, what happens in Slytherin clearly doesn't stay in Slytherin...Well... Don't bother crying to me when he breaks your heart"

The mood in the castle as we entered June became exciting and tense again. Everyone was looking forward to the third-task, which would take place a week before the end of term. I was practicing hexes at every available moment and Draco usually jumped for the chance to help. I felt more confident about this task than either of the others. Difficult and dangerous though it may be, Harry and I have battled with dark creatures and fought a dark wizard before this. Tired of walking in on us all over the school, professor Mcgonagall gave us permission to use the empty transfiguration classroom at lunchtimes.
I had soon mastered the impediment jinx, a spell to slow down and obstruct attackers, the Reductor curse, which would enable me to blast solid objects out of my way, and the four-point spell, a useful discovery of Hermione's that would make my wand point due north, therefore enabling me to check if I was going in the right direction within the maze. I was still having trouble with the shield charm though. This was supposed to cast a temporary, invisible wall around myself that deflected curses.
"Come and look at this" said Ron, who was standing by the window. He was staring into the grounds "what's Malfoy doing?"
Harry, Hermione and I went to see. Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle were standing in the shadow of a tree below. Malfoy was holding his hand to his mouth, and speaking into it.
"He looks like he's using a walkie-talkie" said Harry curiously.
"He can't be" I said "those sort of things don't work around Hogwarts"
Sirius was sending daily owls now. Like Hermione, he seemed to want to concentrate on getting Harry and I through the last task, before we concerned ourselves with anything else. He reminded Harry in every letter that whatever might be going on outside the walls of Hogwarts was not his business, nor was it in his power to influence it.
"If Voldemort is really getting stronger again, my
priority is to ensure your safety. He cannot hope to lay
hands on you two while you are under Dumbledores protection,
but all the same, take no risks: concentrate on getting
through the maze safely, and then we can turn our
attention to other matters.
