My trunk was packed; Luna was back in her cage on top of it. Draco, Daphne and I were waiting in the crowded entrance hall with the rest of the fourth-years for the carriages that would take us back to hogsmeade station. It was another beautiful summers day. I supposed that privet drive would be hot and leafy, it's flower bed a riot of colour, when I arrive there. The thought gave me no pleasure at all.
The weather could not have been more different on the journey back to kings cross than it had been on their way to Hogwarts the previous September. There wasn't a single cloud in the sky. We sat in the Slytherin compartment. I was talking freely to my friends, more freely than I had since the whole thing had happened. I felt as though Dumbledores speech at the feast had made things just that bit easier. I needed to tell everyone what had happened in the graveyard because nothing was going to change the fact that it had happened, and to run from it would be foolish.
Malfoy, Blaise and I went for a walk to find the lunch trolley, but it was no where in sight. Something, however, inside my brothers compartment got Draco's attention. We leaned in near the door, staying well hidden.
"When we saw Malfoy under that tree..." Ron said slowly.
"He was talking to her, in his hand" said Hermione "he knew, of course. That's how she's been getting little interviews with the Slytherins"
Before I could stop him, Draco had slid their compartment door open.
"Very clever, Granger" said Draco "so, you caught some pathetic reporter and the potter twins are Dumbledores favourite again. Big deal"
I flashed a half hearted smile at the trio and took a seat in their compartment.
"Just stop Draco" I hissed "please, we've had enough of this"
Draco's cold eyes peered into mine, for a moment I was certain he was going to hurl some kind of insult at me, but he didn't. He nodded and muttered a "sorry" under his breath before leaving. I stayed behind with Harry, Ron and Hermione for a while.
The rest of the journey passed pleasantly enough; I wished it could have gone on all summer. The usual conversation and noise filled the corridors and Hermione and Ron headed out. Harry and I, however stayed put.
"Fred - George - wait a moment"
The twins turned. Harry pulled open his trunk, and drew out our Triwizard winnings.
"Take it" I said as Harry thrust the money into George's hands.
"What?" Said Fred looking flabbergasted.
"Take it" Harry said firmly "we don't want it"
"You're mental" said George, trying to push the money back to us.
"No, we're not" I insisted "you take it, get inventing. It's for the joke shop. We could all use a good laugh"
"Harry, Chloe" George smiled weakly "there's got to be a thousand galleons in here"
The twins stared at us.
"Just don't tell your mum where you got it"
We left the compartment before the twins could say another word. I left the train and headed onto the platform, where my friends were waiting for me.
"We're sorry about our parents" Crabbe and Goyle said.
I assured them it was fine, it may sound crazy but I refuse to blame them for something their parents did. Just as long as they never become like them. Sirius had been put on Azkaban for something he hadn't done, he was wrongly accused. Part of me felt like it would be wrongly accusing my friends... We're 14 after all... They can't be death eaters yet.
"I'll write to you all the time" I told pansy and Daphne, as we pulled into one big group hug. They all nodded and then went to their parents to leave.
All that was left was Blaise and Draco.
"See you later Blaise" I hugged him tightly and turned to Draco.
"So I'm guessing you'll no longer be coming to stay for the summer?" Draco asked me, pulling me into a hug "I'm afraid I won't see you enough, I can't handle just writing to you..."
"Well, we'll have to meet up at Diagon alley or something... All of us... I need some fun" I smiled weakly.
"My house is always free" Blaise offered "I'll owl you I promise, maybe we could arrange something... My parents aren't death Eaters... You'll be safe"
"I'd like that" I smiled again "I need to go"
I turn to leave but Draco pulled me into one last kiss, it felt as though we would never see one another again, like this was the end... Of course I knew it wasn't, I was merely scared. Scared of how much can change... How much will change. Like Hagrid had once said... What's coming will come and we'll just have to meet it when it does...
Uncle vernon was waiting beyond the barrier. Mrs Weasley was close by us. She hugged us very tightly when she saw us and told us to keep in touch. We said goodbye to everyone else and turned to uncle vernon, who was eyeing the large Bandage on my arm, yet he didn't bother to ask about it. We followed him silently from the station and climbed into the back of the Dursleys' car. We didn't speak. We just stared out of the car window, watching the sceneries flashing before my eyes. I replayed Dumbledores speech in my head.
"If the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind"
