The duel

Harry was untied and handed his wand, I tried to shout but no words came out, my throat was too sore from my screams.

"You have been taught how to duel, Harry Potter?" Said Voldemort softly, his red eyes glinting through the darkness.

At these words I remembered the duelling club at Hogwarts... All Harry had learnt was the disarming spell and that wouldn't be of any use to him. Harry and I were outnumbered. I knew Harry would surely have to face the unblockable Killing curse and Voldemort was right... Our mother wasn't here to die this time... We were quite unprotected.

"Bow..." Voldemort insisted towards Harry. Though he just stood there, his face set.

"Harry" I croaked, barely audible "just bow..."

I pleaded for my brother to just do as he says. Voldemort turned to me once more, I had been hit again with the cruciatus curse. The pain was so intense, so all-consuming, that I no longer knew where I was... White-hot knives were piercing every inch of my skin, my chest surely going to burst with pain; I was screaming more loudly than I had ever screamed in my life-

And then it stopped. I lay there, unable to move, paralysed.

"That hurt her..." Voldemort taunted "you don't want me to do that again do you?"

Harry didn't answer. I knew we were going to die like Cedric, there was nothing any of us could do. I stared up at Lucius Malfoy, how could anyone be such a monster, he knows me... His son loves me... And he's just going to let me die.

Voldemort was ready. As Harry shouted "Expelliarmus!" Voldemort cried "Avada Kedavra"

A jet of green light issued from Voldemort's wand just as a jet of red light blasted from Harry's - they met in mid-air.

"Do nothing!" Voldemort shrieked to his death eaters and I saw his red eyes very wide. I tried to pull myself up, but my body just couldn't handle it. A beautiful and unearthly sound filled the air... It was coming from the thread of light that connected Voldemort and Harry's wands. It was a sound I recognised, though I had only heard it once in my life before... Phoenix song. It was a sound of hope to me... The most beautiful and welcome thing I had ever heard in my life... I felt as though the song was inside me. Harry hadn't broken the connection with Voldemort yet. I saw Harry concentrate every last particle of his mind upon forcing the beam towards Voldemort.

At once, Voldemort's wand began to emit echoing screams of pain... Then - Voldemort's red eyes widening even more with shock. Something large began to blossom from Voldemort's wand tip, a great, greyish something that looked as though it was made of the solidest, densest smoke... It was a head... Now a chest and arms... The torso of Cedric Diggory.

Cedric stood up, and looked up at the golden thread of light and spoke.

"Hold on, Harry" it said.

The voice was distant and echoing. Something else emerged from the tip, I knew when I saw it who it would be... I knew because the woman appearing was the one I'd thought of more than anyone tonight... The woman who I saw myself in... My mother.

"Your father coming..." She said quietly "he wants to see you... It will be alright... Hold on"

And he came... First his head, then his body... Tall and untidy-haired like Harry, the smoky, shadowy form of James potter... My dad appeared. He walked close to Harry, looking down at him, and he spoke in the same distant, echoing voice the others had spoke in.

"When the connection is broken, we will linger for only moments... But we will give you time... You must take Chloe and get to the portkey, it will return you to Hogwarts"

"Harry..."whispered Cedric "take my body back will you? Take my body back to my family"

"I will" I heard Harry utter.

"Do it now"whispered my fathers voice, it soothed me.

Harry pulled his wand upwards and the golden thread broke; the cage of light vanished, the Phoenix song died- but the shadowy figures of Voldemort's victims did not disappear - they were closing in upon Voldemort, shielding us. Harry ran, knocking two stunned death eaters aside as he passed; he was dodging curses, pelting towards Cedric's dead body and my lifeless weak body.

"Accio!" Harry yelled, posting his wand at the Triwizard cup.

It flew into the air, and soared towards us - Harry caught it by the handle. I felt a jerk behind my navel, the portkey had worked - it was speeding me away in a whirl of wind and colour, Cedric along with us... We were going back.
