He gave a short blast of his whistle , and Harry, Cedric and I hurried forward towards the maze. The towering hedges cast black shadows across the path, and whether because they were so tall and thick, or because they had been enchanted, the sound of the surrounding crowd was silenced the moment we entered the maze. I felt as though I was underwater again. I pulled out my wand and muttered "Lumos" and I heard Cedric and Harry do the same behind me. After about fifty years, we reached a fork. We all looked at eachother.

"We're sticking together" Harry insisted and I nodded, thankfully.

"See you" I turned to Cedric and hugged him lightly. We went left as Cedric went right.

I heard Bagman's whistle for the second time. Krum had entered the maze. Harry and I sped up. Our chosen path seemed to be completely deserted. We turned right and hurried on, holding our wands high over our heads, trying to see as far ahead as possible. Still, there was nothing in sight. Bagman's whistle blew in the distance for the third time. All of the champions are now inside the maze. The maze was growing darker with every passing minute as the sky over head deepened to navy. We reached a second fork.

"Point me" I whispered to my wand, holding it flat in my palm. The wands spun around once, and pointed towards his right. The path ahead was empty, too, and when we reached a right turn again and took it- again the past was unblocked. Then we heard movement right behind us. I held out my wand, ready to attack, but it's beam fell only upon Cedric, who had just hurried out of a path on the right hand side. Cedric looked severely shaken. The sleeve of his robes was smoking.

"Hagrid's blast-ended skrewts!" He hissed "They're enormous- I only just got away!"

He shook his head and dived out of sight, along another path. We hurried off again. Then, as we turned the corner we saw- a dementor gliding towards us. Twelve feet tall, it's face hidden by its hood, it's rotting, scabbed hands outstretched.

"Expecto patronum!" Harry cried.

A silver stag erupted from the end of Harry's wand and galloped towards the dementor, which fell back and tripped over the hem of its robes... I've never seen a dementor stumble.

"Hang on!" I shouted "it's a boggart! Riddikulus!"

There was a loud crack and the dementor exploded in a wisp of smoke. Harry's stag faded from sight. Left... Right... Left again... Twice we found ourselves facing dead ends. I did the four-point spell again, and found we were going too Far East. We turned back and took a right turn. The cup must be close by, and for the first time I saw the image of myself, raising the Triwizard cup in front of the rest of the school. We met nothing for ten minutes other than a dead end.

"What are you doing?" Cedric yelled "what the hell d'you think you're doing?"

And then I heard Krum's voice.

"Cruci0!"

The air was suddenly filled with Cedric's yells. Horrified, I began sprinting to where the screams were coming from. I saw Cedric jerking and twitching on the ground, Krum standing over him. I pulled out my wand and pointed it at Krum just as he looked up. Krum turned and began to run.

"Stupefy!" I yelled.

The spell hit Krum in the back; he stopped dead in his tracks, fell forwards and lay motionless, face down in the grass. Harry had already dashed over to Cedric, who has stopped twitching.

"Are you alright?" Harry said roughly, grabbing Cedric's arm.

"Yeah" panted Cedric "yeah... I don't believe it... He crept up behind me..."

"I can't believe this... I thought he was alright..." I said, staring at Krum.

"So did I" Cedric was still panting a bit.
