I walked off the bus, waving goodbye to Sly and the others. I walked home and walked in, being crushed in a massive hug from my mom. "Uh... Mom? What's wrong?" I asked her. It wasn't until her body shook when I saw that she was crying. She pulled me into the living room and I sat down on the chair.

"It's your father, Aleks. He's been in an accident and he's really badly hurt." Mom explained. I looked at her with wide eyes. "What do you mean?" I asked, not wanting to believe her words. "Come on, we have to go to the hospital." Mom told me, pulling her purse up onto her shoulder.

I just followed her, emotionless, to the car. We got in and she sped away. He couldn't be that hurt...right? It took us at least twenty minutes to get there. Once my mom parked, we both ran inside. The nurse told us that we had to wait a couple of minutes before being able to visit him.

"He'll be okay, mom. I know he will." I tried reassuring her. We both sat in a chair and waited. He would be okay. He couldn't be that hurt, yeah? It was just a small accident. I thought, playing with my hands. I always read this event happening to main characters in books, and always saw this in movies; it never ends up okay in the end. But this is real life, it couldn't end like the movies and books.

"Um, the people here for Mr. Marchant?" (idk if that's his real last name, okay?) The nurse said, standing in the waiting area. My mom and I both stood up.

"You both may see him. He's in room 316 on the second floor." She said, walking away shortly after. I followed my mom to the elevator and waited for the doors to open. I placed a hand on her shoulder and kept it there when the doors opened. We stepped in.

The elevator dinged, the doors opening. We both sped, while walking, to room 316. My mom took a deep breath before grasping the door knob. She turned it and slowly walked in. She gasped softly when she saw my dad.

He had a bandage around his head, right arm in a cast, left leg bandaged up, and right hand wrapped in gauze. When mom walked over to him, I closed the door and sat in one of the chairs. My dad's eves opening slowly. He looked over to my mom and smiled softly, then looked over to me, doing the same. "Hey, baby. Hey, Aleks." His voice sounding hoarse.

"How are you?" Mom asked worriedly. Dad rolled his eyes at her question.

"I'm alright," he coughed for a minute before continuing. "How are you guys?"

"We're fine." I answered, speaking up since we came in. The doctor walked in and started talking.

"Mr. Marchant, I have some upsetting news." He announced. We all looked at him, mom almost shaking. "You are extremely injured. We couldn't fix everything wrong, but we tried. I'm very sorry to say, but," He stopped and frowned at mom. "You only have a few hours left."

Mom covered her mouth and her eyes started to tear, I just sat in shock. Dad coughed again. "I'll give you guys some time." The doctor said, walking out and closing the door behind him. I stood up also and headed towards the door.

"I'll let you guys visit. I'll be outside." I told mom. She just nodded while dad tried to object. "No, dad, you and mom deserve more time together. I'll wait outside." I said, walking out and to the waiting room. I sat in my chair and just started thinking.

About an hour later, mom came back over to me, tears going down her face. "You go visit him, now. A son deserves time with his father also." She said. I stood up and gave her a hug before going back up to the room.

I entered and dad looked towards me. "Hey, boy. Come over here and sit next to me." He said, coughing afterwards. I nodded, closed the door, and walked over to him, sitting on the bed. "So, tell me some stuff. How'd school go?" Dad asked me.
