could our grasping fingers have melted into each other?
had i waited for the sizzling heat of summer?
should i have been patient and waited past winter?
a season dazzling to the eye yet so very bitter?
could we have been fueled by the glorious rays of the sun?
and swam in the exhilarating waves just for fun?
instead of freezing in the smelly depths of this train?
our brains addled, our feet screaming in pain?
and if i ask you out on the white sands of paradise?
would your heart finally have been thawed of the ice
that gripped your soul on the very day i vowed
of my passion for you far, far beyond the clouds.
if i voice out "i love you" when we're licking our ice creams
instead of in the frantic crowd that flowed like a stream
would you have uttered "i love you too" back?
instead of your thunderous, heart-breaking smack?
and as you stormed out the train into the thick of the snow
and i nursed my sore cheek, wishing i could say "no",
i closed my eyes and prayed for the warmth of tomorrow
yet i knew my heart would forever be frozen in sorrow...
