Chapter 3. Oh God please save me

     "Wow." Nathan looked at me and chuckled. "I'm assuming you like it?" Nodding I gaze at the night sky in amazement. "You'd never see this in California." Right now is definitely not where I thought I'd end up, I'm in the bed of a truck with a stranger, someone I had only met an hour ago, yet it feels like I've known this guy forever, we've talked about almost everything to each other basically sketched out our whole lives, the only thing I haven't mentioned is my fathers passing. I don't like to talk about it much. "Well, I'm glad I'm the person you've first experienced this with." I look at him still completely confused why he's here with me right now. "Why?" Nathan looked from the sky to me. "Why what?" Looking back up at the stars I sigh. "Why are you here with me? We barely just met an hour ago." Laughing lightly with amusement in his smile he laid down seeming to get comfortable. "I honestly don't know myself, I could ask you the same question, you could've gone home but you decided to be with a person you don't know at all. Me? I basically just go with whatever life throws at me." Raising an eyebrow I look at him. "Life threw me at you?" He sat up and started laughing. "No no, sorry that came out wrong." I laugh a bit. "Don't worry I'm messing with you, I get it." He smiles and looks at me. "I don't know why but I would really like to get to know you, maybe we could be friends?" I nod and look down smiling "Yeah." Thinking that this guy actually liked me? Yeah right. I'm way out of his league. "But if I'm going to be honest, I'd like to maybe become more than friends in the future." Wait what. I look over at him surprised and he smiles. He isn't kidding. "And I can't wait till the day that happens, when I saw you in there sitting alone all I could think is, what kind of person could leave this girl sitting in a diner late at night alone. Then you turned your head and I saw your face. I had to come in" Blushing I look down with millions of things coming into my mind at once then I hear a little laugh coming from the side of me. "I'll drive you home, it's getting late." He stands and gets out out of the bed of the truck. "You commin?" I snap out of my thoughts and get in the truck with him. That was my Saturday night and let me tell you it went in an extremely different way than expected.

Monday.

     "Iris..Iris!" I look over at Kayla coming back to reality. "Yeah? What's up?" She stares at me for a second like she's trying to read me. "Hm. Sooo how'd it go with James?" Kayla smirks speaking quiet enough so only us two can have a conversation. Rolling my eyes I sigh and start writing my notes. "He's an ass." I have him in 2 classes and now he acts like I don't exist, in fact he's in this one. "What'd he do?" I bite my lip feeling a little embarrassed and whisper. "He stood me up." That's when her face completely changed and she stood up walking over to him. Oh God please save me. She tapped on his shoulder and he turned around checking her out. Prick. "Well hello there, Kayla was it?" She smiled scrunching up her nose make the most fake smile I've ever seen then laughed lightly. "Mhm, Jackass was it?" He looked taken back and raised his eyebrows. "Excuse me?" She sighed sadly. "Aw, He can't hear either, look next time you think about messing with my friend you'll be--" Everyone's heads turned and looked towards the boy who came in. "Whoa, little miss sunshine isn't so sunny today is she." I looked at Kayla and noticed her body tense up turning to face Hunter. "I told you not to call me that..." He just chuckled and crossed his arms looking down at her. "And who said I'd stop?" Her cheeks heated up obviously blushing. That's Hunter Rylan, most popular guy in EastWood and to be honest, yeah most attractive too. Kayla just recently told me all about him at the party I mentioned before, I'll fill you in so you aren't so confused. Kayla's home was wrecked due to a bad storm they recently had. I moved out here just after it happened. Anyways, Kayla's mother was good friends with Hunter's mom and she offered them to stay in Hunters home until they got back on their feet. Crazy right? I barely believed it when I heard it. But nope, all true. "What are you doing picking on James? Didn't your mommy ever teach you manners?" Kayla rolled her eyes. "I'm standing up for my friend." Oh no, don't mention me please.. I sunk down in my seat and tried to make it look like I was focused on my notes. Mrs.Bellmort walked in noticing the little scene that was happening. "Alright students, get to your seats, you can do this after class."

       After school I decided to invite Kayla and Adrianna over to hang out since I had nothing better to do. Annndd I just got done telling them everything that happened on Saturday since they were bothering me all lunch about it. Once again, I don't really share my feelings to everyone. Which is another reason why I'm so confused I told Nathan almost everything about me and my life. They started squealing and smiling while I sit there as red as a fire truck. "Okay guys, calm down. He hasn't even texted me ye--" My phone starts buzzing and their eyes dart down to it. Of coarse that happens. Grabbing my phone I look at the caller ID and Nathan is plastered across the front. All I can do is stare. Adrian hits my arm. "Answer it!" Shaking my head it kept buzzing and Kayla quickly grabs the phone answering  it before I can snatch it away. "Kayla speaking, oh you're looking for Iris? Yup. She's right here." I'm way to awkward over the phone. I shake my head and they start mouthing at me. 'Talk!' Sighing I take the phone and gulp nervously. "H-Hello?" There goes the stuttering. "Hey gorgeous, is this a bad time?" I look at Kayla and Adrian they shake their heads gesturing their hands to tell me to keep going. "Uhh no, not at all." I can hear his light chuckle over the phone. "Good, cause I was wondering if you wanted to hang out again this week." I bite my lip out of habit and think for a second. "Sure, where at?" Why am I so nervous, my voice is shaky. "That'll be a surprise." Getting more used to the conversation I calm down a bit and smile laughing lightly. "What's with you and surprises?"
"It's fun, plus don't you want a little adventure in your life babe? You can trust me." I blush feeling his smirk through the phone. "O-okay." I smile. "When?" I look up at Kayla and Adrian. "How about tonight?" "Tonight? I'm sorry but I was going to--" Adrian takes the phone away from me quickly. "She'd love to...Yup!" She smiled and hung up the phone "He's picking you up at 6." I crossed my arms and frowned. "We were all three supposed to hang out tonight I feel bad." They just smirked. "Don't worry about it Iris plus, a guy like that doesn't come along 24/7." "But--" Kayla clasped her hand over my mouth. "No buts." I swear these two are very interested in my problems..okay well no it's not really a problem to be honest, more like a blessing. I wish he went to our school. That'd make everything so much easier. "Alright fine."
"Good, don't forget to tell us everything after your date." I sighed. "It's not a date, we're just hanging out." Adrian giggled. "Maybe to you it's just hanging out. But to him?" I blushed and fiddled with my phone case. Changing the topic now. "So, you and Hunter huh? I'm not the only one who's got something going on." Kayla blushed. "Nope. Not interested in that egotistical jerk." Adrian and I looked at her raising our eyebrows. That's definitely a lie. "Yeah right. You're blushing right now, all I mentioned was his name." I say smirking. "He likes you Kayla, it's obvious." Kayla laughed sarcastically. "You're funny." "No it's true, I mean what guy takes all this time just to tease one girl, he's probably just trying to keep his bad boy rep." "The thought of him liking me is like thinking that people can live on Mars."
"Whelp, we must have some scientific break through to make that possible, because he definitely has a thing for you." She tried not to smile and stay calm. "Mhm, sure. We'll see about that."
