Chapter 14. That was embarrassing

     "So, How was your weekend?" I look up at Kayla then look over at Nathan, who's mood has changed completely since hearing about his mom. "It was alright." I smile gently and take a sip of what's left in my water bottle. We're at lunch before our last period. "Everything okay?" Adrian says with concern in her voice. "No, yeah I'm good." I just wish Nathan were okay.. "Nathan.. yo Nathan." Snapping out of a stare, he looks up at Hunter. "Sorry, what?" Nathan looks at Hunter confused. "You okay man?" He nods lightly and smiles. "Yeah sorry." Just as Hunter was going to speak the lunch bell rang and we had to get up for the next class. "Oh wait, Iris." I turn and look at Kayla. "Yeah? What's up." She smirks. "Remember how we wanted to get back at Monica a week ago?" I nod listening. But honestly I just want the drama with her to be over with. I love that my friends are sticking up for me, it's just with everything recent that's happened it's taken me out of the mood to deal with people trying to poison my life, like Monica. "There's a party tonight Hunter told me about, I think it would be the perfect chance to do it." Seriously a party on a Monday night?? That's different. I smile gently and shrug. "I don't know, I think we should just ignore her. If she does anything else I'll do something about it, but right now I think she's just a person who has nothing better to do with her life than to try to offend others." She smiles. "Yeah, I get you..but I'm definitely going to get back at her if she says anything else to be rude to you." And I am totally okay with that. I laugh lightly and nod. "Good. Lets just get this day over with." Kayla smiles and walks out with me and Nathan to our last class.

          "Hey Iris, you look cute today." I turn to Nathan and smile. "Thanks dork. You don't look too bad yourself." He smiles lightly and looks back to the test papers that were being passed out to us. I hope he was able to at least get some studying in.. I glance over at Nathan who looks even more stressed than he already is. Nope he didn't have time to study.. I sigh and turn back around to get my test over with. Thank God I was able to finish the day with only a few glares from Monica.

   "I seriously hate that class". Kayla says sighing as we make our way out. I nod in agreement and smile. "So what are you doing after school?" I shrug really not knowing. "Most likely gonna hang out with Nathan." She rolls her eyes and sighs. "When are you guys gonna make it official? You two are basically attached at the hip". If only she knew. While I finish my thought Nathan walks out of the classroom and takes my hand. "Ohhhh, wait. Are you guys finally a couple?" Never mind, I guess she will know. I nod casually. "Since when?!?" She smiles widely. I laugh lightly and Nathan smiles in amusement. There's the smile I've been missing. "It hasn't been long, he asked me just this weekend." Kayla giggles and stops as if something just clicked in her mind. "You guys should go with us to the party tonight, Adrian and the guys are going too." I look at Nathan curious if he wants to go. In my opinion Nathan could use anything to get his mind off what's happening. He shrugs and smiles. "Why not." Kayla smiles. "Okay cool, I'll text you the address and time it's at Dylan Walkers place." I guess she really wasn't kidding about a party happening on a Monday night. "Okay sounds good, we'll see you guys there."

"You know we don't have to go if you're really not in the mood for it right?" I walk over to Nathan who's currently sitting on my bed and waiting for me to get ready since all he had to do was change and come over here. Damn guys have it easy. "Yeah I know, but maybe this'll help me get my mind off what's happening right now." I smile gently and kiss his cheek. He isn't wrong, it's not like Nathan to be as quiet as he has been, though I don't blame him really. This whole thing with his mom really must be difficult. "Well then lets just go and have as much fun as we can tonight." He grins which causes my stomach to do backflips. "Sounds good cutie." I turn and go to my closet and grab the dress I'll be wearing tonight. Once I grab it I start taking my t-shirt off until about the bottom of my bra shows when I realize Nathan is still in the room. My cheeks turn bright red and I quickly yank my shirt back down to cover my body. "Oops. I'm just gonna..change in the bathroom." That was embarrassing. I sigh and lean against my bathroom door as I close it. Look, I know you may be thinking, he didn't see anything why the hell is she freaking out. I just started dating Nathan and though I'm sure he doesn't mind one bit. I'd rather not get THAT comfortable in the first week of a relationship. I finish changing and walk out of the bathroom after doing some final touches with my make up. "Ready? I just gotta put my heals on." Oh trust me, these aren't some thin high ass heals, hell no. I wouldn't be able to walk 2 feet in those without tripping. I just stick to the cute wedge heal, that's more my speed. I listen for Nathan to respond but get nothing in return. "Nathan?" I look over at him and catch a direct stare towards me. "I must be the luckiest guy at the party tonight." He smiles happily. A blush spreads across my cheeks and I smile. "Okay Nathan, you're sweet but you know how I am with the cheesy stuff." He chuckles. "I know. But whatever." I roll my eyes playfully and put on my wedges. "Okay lets go my lady." I smile and follow Nathan out of the house to his truck.

        Once we arrive music can be heard poring out every window, there are red solo cups on the lawn and people partying by a lake. "So it's a lake house?" Nathan says a bit surprised since Kayla mentioned nothing about it. "Yeah I guess so, ready to go in?" This is just like any other high school party. "Yeah." He says taking my hand and making our way in. When we walk in I see Adrian and Kayla talking to the guys. "Sup Nathan! Bout time you guys got here." Hunter chuckles, making his way over with the rest of our friends. Nathan smiles and does that weird bro hug thing guys do. Seriously, can someone explain it to me? I don't get it. "Hey Kayla, hey Adrian." I smile. "Hey Iris!" Adrian and Kayla say in unison. Whelp. That was creepy. "How's the party so far?" I'm assuming it's the same story. Ya know, drinking, couples swallowing each other's faces, girl crying over some boy in the corner. That kind of thing. "It's good so far, but same old story." Kayla laughed. Told ya. "Now that your here, lets go dance!" Adrian giggles taking both mine and Kayla's hands. "Can't say no to that. Lets go Iris." Kayla smiles as we make our way through to where everyone else is dancing. Trying to have as much fun as I can I start getting carried away in the music with Kayla and Adrian. Maybe this party isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The only reason I'm really here is so Nathan can get his mind off what's going on at home.

         "Since when is this a slut show?" I stop dancing and turn around. I thought I recognized a bitchy voice. "Huh, I'm pretty sure it became one ever since you decided to walk in. Don't you have anything better to do with your life than to come in and annoy the hell out of mine?" Monica scoffed at my response. "I can't help it, you're just so much fun to mess with." Now Kayla and Adrian stepped in. "Maybe you should take yourself and that short ass dress that we might as well call a shirt, to the rest of your whore friends." Kayla says getting in her face. I love my friends. Monica rolls her eyes and walks away to the backyard. This is exactly why I haven't come to one of these things since I've been here. "Thanks guys. I'm just going to go hang out with Nathan for a bit." I smile and sigh walking away. They nod smiling and carry on dancing. "You having fun?" Nathan says sensing the tension most likely radiating off me. I nod and smile happily. "Uh huh sure..what happened?" He doesn't need to deal with this. "It's nothing Nathan, I already took care of it. Just annoyed still." I smile and kiss his cheek. He smiles and nods. "Enough about me, are you having fun?" He takes a look around at everything and shrugs smiling. "Yeah, I guess so." I look around at everyone dancing and drinking. "You wanna go?" I look back at Nathan. "Go where?" He asks curiously. "I know we just got here but it's not as great as I thought it would be either. We could go anywhere you want to." I say and smile at him. He smiles, "Sounds good." I think I left my bag on the couch. "I'm gonna go tell Adrian and Kayla I'm leaving." He smiles and I go to find my bag first. When I walk into the living room at least 2 couples are making out on the couch. Jesus, aren't there more private areas for everyones business? "So, Iris. You decided to come to the party." I really can't get away from these irritating voices can I. Rolling my eyes I turn to a view of an assholes face. "What do you want James." Not that I was really asking because I don't care. "Oh come on Iris, you can't really be angry still can you? I know you had a thing for me before, where did that girl go?" He smirks and puts a hand on my shoulder. "Oh I'm not mad anymore James." I fake smile sweetly and grab his hand taking off my shoulder. "I just hate waisting my time with worthless jackasses like you. Let me give you some advise.." My smile disappears and I take a step forward making him back up. "Next time, you ever think about standing up a girl, spreading rumors about her, and then trying to hit on that same girl later on? Think about how pathetic it would be to do so. I mean how sad it is that you had to do all that just to get something out of the school whore. If it took that much work just to get laid? How hard will it be for you to have any future with a girl in general. I mean sure, maybe you were the guy that had all girls falling at your feet before but now? You're just a worthless background character in the high school that all girls wouldn't spend one second around just because of what you did. Has it been so hard for you lately that you needed to come back to the girl you jacked things up with in the beginning? Like I said James, I'm not mad anymore, I just feel sorry for you." His eyes are wide with embarrassment and his mouth is open but no words come out. Out of no where a direct punch to his jaw knocks to the ground. I quickly look over to Nathan who's standing over James . "She may not be mad anymore but try and hit on my girlfriend again and I'll take a hit on you." So he's even hotter when he's mad. Damn I'm lucky.
