"Hey Iris?" I look up from my sketch book to Kayla and Adrian. Honestly I'm looking at both of them because I have no idea who said my name. "Yeah, whats up?" I smile setting it down. "Has he asked you out yet?" Kayla asks raising her eyebrow and eating a chip. "Um, nope. Has Hunter admitted his feelings for you yet?" I raise an eyebrow and smirk mimicking her. Her face turns a light shade of red and I chuckle. "I'll tell you guys when it happens, don't worry." I say and smile. "So, wanna watch a scary movie? Oh wait, Kayla you don't like those.. You guys choose."
"Oo! The Notebook!" Adrian suggests smiling. "Okay, I'll go grab it." Getting up from my bed I walk out to find the movie in my moms bedroom. My moms chick flick movie collection is huge, she used to stay up late every Saturday to watch at least 2 movies. I remember being 12 and every Sunday, the day after her regular movie schedule she'd rant about how dumb guys can be. Laughing lightly at the memory, I walk into her room. Where does she keep them? I look around trying to find them and accidentally knock some papers off her dresser. "Oops." Sighing at my clumsiness I kneel down and pick them up. What the hell? When I take a closer look I notice a note from someone that says they can't wait for a date with my mom. Why would she keep this from me?.. Biting my lip slightly frustrated I put the papers back in place and finally find the movie. Of coarse I find them RIGHT after seeing that. I walk out and close her door behind me. I'm going to talk to her when she gets home from work, she's been dealing with a later work schedule recentl--oh my God. Walking into my room I sigh lightly and put the movie in. "Everything okay Iris?" Adrian asks looking at me, slight concern showing on her face. Smiling I nod. "Yeah I'm okay, I'm going to go get some popcorn for us.." I walk back out and downstairs to my kitchen to start making popcorn. "No wonder she's been working later, she's been going on dates with whoever that guy is.." As long as she's happy..I wouldn't mind her going on dates. It's that she kept it from me.. Trying to keep my mind off it I shake my head and finish making the popcorn. I walk back upstairs and set the popcorn down after turning off the lights. "Ready to watch the movie?" I ask sitting down. They smile and nod as I press play. We're not even halfway through the movie and Adrian's crying and hogging the popcorn. I think Kayla's fine, just a few sniffles here and there. Me? I'm just watching it, I've seen this movie plenty of times. I laugh lightly seeing how emotional they are and keep watching. Slowly I get more intrigued by Noah noticing similar personality traits to how carefree Nathan is. Oh hell no, I don't cry at movies. I'm not starting over this.
By the end of the movie I'm tearing up and holding tissues. No. I am not full on crying but yes, the movie got to me....God dammit Nathan. After the very last scene of the couple, birds start fly over the beach while the picture fades out and I smirk. "If you're a bird I'm a bird.." Suddenly pillows are being thrown at my face. "Iris!!" They start crying more and I laugh lightly. I am a horrible friend, but I do it out of love. Smiling innocently and get up and turn the lights back on. "That was a good movie." I say and plop down on the bed. "Yeah until you decided to make us cry more." Kayla rolls her eyes and laughs. "What time is it anyways?" Adrian asks. I look at the time on my phone and eat the bag of chips we were having before the movie. "5:00" I answer. "Crap! I gotta be home by 6, my mom likes to do family time on Wednesdays or whatever." Adrian sighs rolling her eyes. "Then I guess I'll head out too, got a lot of homework to deal with." Kayla says frowning. "Okay, no problem, I'll see you guys tomorrow at school." I reply and get up to walk them both out. "Bye guys!" Smiling I wave them off and walk back in my house. Guess I'll make my own dinner tonight. "Little bit of music wouldn't hurt." I hook my phone up to a speaker and start my playlist. After, I jog upstairs and try to find something more comfortable. I come across Nathan's gym shirt and smile putting it on, then put on pajama shorts. When I come back downstairs I search through the pantry to see what I can make. Yes! I take out the ingredients to make spaghetti. My favorite. Humming, I start dancing lightly to the music and begin cooking. While I wait for the noodles to boil and finish adding spices to the sauce, I make a small salad bowl. Just as I sit down to eat the salad a knock comes from my back door that leads to the backyard. What the actual hell. Quietly I grab a knife. Because who the hell knocks on a back door. Gulping nervously, I peak around the curtains that hang over the sliding glass door to a smiling Nathan. This dumb ass loves to scare the shit out of me. I sigh relieved and pull back the curtains, then open the sliding door. "You know we have a front door right?" I ask raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, but that's no fun..damn it smells good in here what are you making?" He smiles down at me then smirks. "Nice shirt sweetheart." Every time he calls me that I feel like my hearts going to fall out of my chest, it's a good feeling, but what is this kid doing to me? Blushing lightly I glance down at my shirt. "I uh.. thanks." I smile, slightly embarrassed. "I'm making spaghetti. Are you hungry?" I ask looking at him. His mouth looks like it's watering. "Not only is she gorgeous, she cooks too. I got lucky and yes I'm extremely hungry." I blush more and laugh at his comment. Yeah no shit you're hungry. I'm home alone tonight so I guess I could use the company. "You can eat with me if you want." I smile at him and go back into the kitchen to stir the sauce. "Thanks, i think i will." He smiles and chuckles, sitting at the stools by the kitchen. "So what brings you here anyways?" I turn and lean against the counter on the opposite side. "I was in the neighborhood, thought I'd stop by." He says casually and smirks lightly. "Mhm, in the neighborhood, sure.." I raise an eyebrow at him. "Yup." Smiling, he leans in closer. Is he trying to kiss me? I start to lean in slowly then I hear the front door open and close. "Iris?? I'm home sweetie!" Quickly I step back and Nathan falls forward making the stool behind him collapse. My eyes widen and I burst out laughing and fall on the ground. "Oh my! Nathan are you okay?? What happened?" My mom frowns at him. "I guess you could say he was, head over heals." I smirk and continue laughing. "First of all, that was the worst pun I've ever heard. Second of all, you're so going to get it." Standing up he starts chasing me. I quickly get up and run away. "Nathan no! Don't you dare!!" Feeling two arms wrap around me I try to get out of his grasp but end up being tickled by him instead. "N-Nathan! S-stop!" I laugh hard and try to cover my stomach. "Not until you say sorry!" He smiles obviously enjoying this. "F-fine! I'm sorry!" I sigh in relief and laugh lightly. "Sweetie, you made dinner?" My mom asks looking at me. And then reality sinks in on what I found earlier. "Well yeah, you worked late today didn't you? Thought I'd make dinner." After answering a slight look of guilt shows on her face. How did I not see that before. "Are you still hungry? Or did you have dinner at work?" It's obvious that she realized I've found out know because I can see the sorry look she has plastered on her face. "Iris, I wanted to tell--" "Well then why didn't you mom? I would have been okay with it." I cross my arms and watch for her answer. "I haven't dated anyone since your..father, I wasn't sure if you'd be okay with it. I'm sorry sweetie." She replies looking worried. "I-I'm uh sorry, should I go? I don't want to intrude.." Nathan asks feeling a bit awkward. I don't blame him, I feel bad he didn't need to see this side between my mom and I, we're really close we've never gotten in an actual argument before. "You don't have to Nathan, I'm sorry you had to see that." I smile and try to get off the subject. "Plus, you're hungry right?" I ask. "Don't worry about it cutie, I'll make something at home." He smiles gently and kisses my cheek. "I'll see you at school tomorrow, k?" I nod in reply and smile lightly as he leaves. He does the smallest things to make me feel better. "I like that boy, he's good for you." My mom comments after he leaves and I smile sarcastically. "Thanks." Sighing she sits down at the table. "You could have tried talking to me about it. It wouldn't have hurt to try." I say and sit across the table from her. "I know sweetie, I'm really sorry that I didn't. I'll make it up to you." She smiles sadly. I look up from the table to her. "Then let me meet him."
